Butler Police
Monday — Police charged Walter E. Smith, 56, of Butler with bouncing a $300 check on Dec. 1 at Clair Boring Painting & Services on Route 8 south. The check was written on a bank account with insufficient funds, according to court documents.
Smith is charged with bad checks. Charging documents noted the defendant has two prior convictions for bad checks.
April 3 — An unknown thief stole four aluminum downspouts from a building that houses Hutchinson’s Cleaners in the 300 block of Negley Avenue. The owner did not know when the property was stolen.
Three of the spouts are about 15 feet long and the other one is about 8 feet.
About a month ago, a police report said, one downspout was stolen from the same building.
Butler Twp. Police
1:25 a.m. Thursday — Jacob Vandevort-Renforth, 25, of Butler was arrested after allegedly pushing and injuring 70-year-old George Owens during a domestic dispute at the Byre Mor Court apartments on Alameda Road.
After he was shoved, according to a police report, Owens fell and hit his head on the corner of a wall in the building. He suffered a cut to his head and was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital.
Vandevort-Renforth was arraigned on charges of simple assault, harassment and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.
Thursday — Police charged Gordon Taggart, 48, of Butler with driving under the influence stemming from a March 20 crash at Route 8 and Homewood Drive.
Sunday — Jedediah L. Owens-Vickers, 22, of Butler allegedly gave police a bogus name during a domestic dispute investigation on Bessemer Avenue. Owens-Vickers is charged with false identification to law enforcement officers.
State Police, Butler
Thursday — Charges are pending against several suspects after a police search of a Middlesex Township home turned up numerous stolen items.
Among the items seized from the home and garage on Kozy Corner Road were vehicles, trailer, all-terrain vehicle, landscaping power tools and hand tools.
The state police crime unit spearheaded the search, which was authorized by a warrant following a lengthy investigation. Assisting was the state police Auto Theft Task Force, Middlesex and Penn Township police, and the Pennsylvania Game Commission.
Police said all of the suspects have been identified but they noted the investigation continues. Authorities did not immediately identify the suspects.
Thursday — More than $1,200 in damage was caused when an unknown vandal drove a motor vehicle onto the Butler-Freeport Community Trail, damaging at least six entrance gates in Winfield and Jefferson townships.
