1:07 p.m. Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Edna J. Nolte, 58, of Summit Township and a pickup truck driven by Angela L. Schlagel, 35, of Butler collided on Route 8. Schlagel, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Schlagel was cited for making an illegal U-turn.12:04 p.m. Thursday — No one was injured when a minivan caught fire on North McKean Street in front of Butler Public Library.The owner of 1993 Dodge Caravan reported that when she started the vehicle she heard a “pop,” said Butler Fire Chief Nick Ban. When she noticed smoke coming from the hood, she and her mother got out.A library employee tried unsuccessfully to put out the blaze with a fire extinguisher. Moments later, Butler firefighters got there and doused it. Damage was contained to the engine compartment but the van would likely have to be totaled, Ban said.8:47 a.m. Thursday — An SUV driven by Lori L. Smead, 53, of Center Township and a bus driven by Francis L. Wilson, 67, of Franklin Township collided at West Brady and North Bluff streets. There were no passengers on the bus, owned by Butler County Children's Center, and no one was injured.
8:30 a.m. Tuesday — Two girls, 15 and 16 years old, were cited for disorderly conduct after they fought at Butler Intermediate High School.
6:30 p.m. Thursday — A Parker child was seriously injured when a car struck the youth's scooter at Route 268 and South Division Street in Parker, Armstrong County.The child, who police did not did not identify, was riding the scooter north on South Division Street and crossed into the path of the car driven by Randy E. Carnahan, 53, of Chicora on Route 268.The collision sent the scooter into the air. A medical helicopter flew the youth to Children's Hospital in Pittsburgh. A police report described the injuries as “major.”Bruin and Parker volunteer firefighters assisted police at the scene.Thursday — A suspect tried to break into a garage at a home on Collier Lane in Donegal Township. The would-be burglar was unable to get inside. The attempted break-in happened between 11 a.m. Tuesday and 11 a.m. Thursday.11 p.m. Wednesday — An unknown porta-potty prankster is on the hot seat for setting a fire at a portable toilet at the Clay Township Community Park. The fire destroyed the Porta-John.6 a.m. March 26 — A pickup truck driven by Lawrence L. Everetts Jr., 45, of Karns City struck a building after crashing on Main Street just south of Hooker Road in Karns City. Everetts was cited for driving too fast for conditions and failing to stop and give information after an accident.
2:30 p.m. Tuesday — Fire badly damaged a house on Simpson Road in Madison Township. The blaze, which started in the laundry room area in back of the home, remains under investigation. Damage to the house, owned by Shelia Vasbinder, is estimated at $60,000.
