Pastor Robert “Bob” C. Huber
Pastor Robert “Bob” C. Huber, 66, of Butler, passed away on Saturday, July 4, 2020, at UPMC Shadyside Hospital.
He was born on April 2, 1954, in New Brighton, and was the son of the late Lawrence Huber and the late Freda Householder Nist.
Pastor Robert “Bob” was the beloved pastor at North Street Christian Church, from 1978 until his passing, and was affectionately known by his church community as “PB.”
He graduated from Slippery Rock High School in 1972, and from Johnson Bible College in 1976.
Bob served as the youth pastor at Farragut Christian Church from 1972 until 1975, and Greenwood Christian Church from 1975 until 1978. He was the dean for many years at Camp Christian and Deep Valley Camp. Bob also served on the Board of Life Choices and was the Butler City Police chaplain.
Bob's mission in life was to tell others about Jesus. His humble attitude and his servant's heart spoke louder than anything. He mentored many young men and women to go on to full-time ministry. He was passionate about Jesus, his family, preaching, the church and his mission work in Thailand, with his brother in the faith, Barnabas. His goal was one more trip to Thailand, but it just wasn't possible.
He was a husband, a dad, a pap, a grandpappy, a brother, a cousin, an uncle and a friend. Bob enjoyed life and loved a good joke. He never failed to remind people that he was married to an “older woman” (only by a year), and she was his “first wife” (only wife). He called that his “sense of Huber.”
Bob will be missed on so many levels. Anything from working with the youth at church to teaching men with addictions or doing dishes for the community meal always brought a smile to his face and nothing was too small or too big for him.
He worked at North Street Christian Church for 42 years, first as a youth pastor for several years, then associate pastor and in 1984, becoming the senior pastor. His church family was very important to him and he was constantly humbled by their overwhelming support through his battle with cancer. He was so moved and touched by the thought and effort put into the drive-by hug while he was unable to be around people and preach.
Bob's motto was, “Love God, Love People” and he lived that to the very end.
“Well done, My good and faithful servant.”
Bob is survived by his loving spouse, Kathi, whom he married on Aug. 19, 1972; one son, Nathan R. Huber of Butler; two daughters, Sonya (Keith) Kremer of Slippery Rock, and Holli Huber and Irv Yohe of Butler; three grandchildren, Isaac Huber, Katie (Kyle) Davidson and Christian Kremer; three great-grandchildren, Simon and Lydia Davidson and Mason Huber; two sisters, Kathy (Ike) Drake of Slippery Rock, and Cheryl (Curt) Duffield of Slippery Rock; three brothers-in-law, Ernie (Angie) Simon, Paul (Melody) Simon and Kim (Sharon) Simon; two sisters-in-law, Karen (Jeff) Hunt and Kris (Jeff) Noel; and numerous aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews and cousins.
He was preceded in death by his parents.
