Wegmans’ planned Cranberry store breaks ground
About one month after announcing acquisition of a building permit, Wegmans Food Market began construction of a planned new store in Cranberry Township on Thursday, Aug. 13.
“We are excited that Wegmans broke ground today, taking the next step in their commitment to build a store in Cranberry Township,” Dan Santoro, township manager, said.
The opening of the 115,000-square-foot grocery center store, to be located at 5000 Cool Springs Drive, is tentatively set for early in 2027, according to the township’s website. The opening of the store will mark the New York-based company’s entry into the Pittsburgh region.
Santoro had previously said the opening of the store will have an immediate economic impact as well as lead to long-term job creation. Around 400 to 500 new jobs are expected to be created at the supermarket.
“Wegmans’ reputation of being a strong community partner fits the culture of Cranberry Township well and we welcome them as they begin their journey to become an integral part of our great community,” Santoro said.
Wegmans currently operates 114 stores across nine states, including 19 in Pennsylvania. The nearest locations to Butler County are currently in Erie and State College
