Surrounded by her beloved family, Dorothy Mae Buchanan Mincer, 90, of East Butler, was received in the loving arms of her Savior Jesus Christ on Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026.

Dorothy was born in Butler on Oct. 12, 1935, to her parents whom she adored, the late Ellsworth Buchanan Sr. and Bessie Kuhn Buchanan. She was the youngest of four children.

Dorothy married Howard Mincer on Dec. 22, 1959, and they shared life, love and family until his passing on Nov. 22, 1992.

Dorothy worked at the Home Improvement Center, a Butler business owned by her son, David Wood, until her retirement.

Dorothy was a living example of what it meant to love everyone with a servant’s heart. As a young mother, she was involved with her son’s Scout troop. For many years, Dorothy and her mother, Bessie, were dedicated volunteers at Sunnyview Nursing Home. Dorothy served for many years as judge of elections in East Butler Borough, and she was inducted into the Butler County Voter Hall of Fame in recognition of her voting in the General Election for 50 consecutive years.

Her faith and her church family were essential parts of her life. Alongside her daughter, Colleen, Dorothy was an active member of East Butler Presbyterian Church, where she served in many roles, including deacon. At just shy of 91 years young, Dorothy especially loved to be part of the distribution of bagged lunches to the community.

Dorothy was loved by all who knew her. She lived in a community where she had an open-door policy that led straight to her candy drawer.

One of Dorothy’s greatest passions was to raise monarch butterflies. It was not unusual to see her out along roadsides gathering monarch butterfly eggs. She would take hundreds of eggs and caterpillars home each season to lovingly nurture and witness the miracle of God’s creation.

Dorothy was devoted to her family. She is survived by her three children, David Wood and his wife, Sherri, of Butler, Colleen Muto and her husband, Roger, of Butler, and Shawn Mincer, of Seattle, Wash.

One of her most enduring titles was “Grandma Dorothy” to her granddaughters, Sarah Muto (Bill Gallaher), Jenna Rhodaberger and her husband, Nathaniel, and Abbey Walsh and her husband, Conlan. Dorothy lavished them with an abundance of love that helped to forever shape their lives. Dorothy made her home with Sarah and Bill, who faithfully watched over her in her final days. Dorothy is also survived by seven great-grandchildren, Simeon, Silas, Miriam and Mara Rhodaberger and Rachel, Addison and Isaiah Walsh; four stepchildren, Mark Mincer, Carol Fennick, Holly Fleischer and Bonnie Baker and their families; a cousin, Joyce Buchanan; and many special nephews and nieces.

In addition to her parents, and beloved husband, Howard, Dorothy was preceded in death by her siblings, Ellsworth Buchanan Jr. and his wife, Dolores, George Buchanan and his wife, Betty, and Hazel Robson and her husband, Charlie. Dorothy’s love for family was modeled to us by serving her parents and her siblings until they breathed their last breath.

Dorothy Mae Mincer lived a life that we could all look to as an example of how to live life well. She will forever be in our hearts and we are all thankful for the blessed assurance that we will see her again.

MINCER — Family and friends of Dorothy Mae Buchanan Mincer, who died Sunday, Aug. 9, 2026, will be received from 2 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 15, at East Butler Presbyterian Church, 900 Randolph Ave., East Butler.

A celebration of life service will immediately follow at 4 p.m. Saturday at the church, with the Rev. Richard Jenks officiating.
