Monday — Police filed felony and other charges against Brandon S. Smith, 25, of Lyndora, who is accused of making several fraudulent purchases with a stolen bank debit card last month.The card was taken Dec. 9 from a purse that was in a car at Butler Memorial Hospital. The card was used five times for a combined $271 in unauthorized purchases at stores.At one of those stores, the Sheetz on Freeport Road in Butler Township, surveillance video showed Smith making two transactions with the stolen debit card, according to court documents.Smith is charged with forgery, access device fraud, theft by deception and receiving stolen property.Monday — William J. Niedermeyer, 52, of Butler Township was charged with felony drug possession after he allegedly provided a tablet of the painkiller Vicodin on Dec. 19 to a worker at his workplace on West Wayne Street.The worker told police that the pill was for his tooth pain, court documents said.“(The employee) stated he had gotten Vicodin from Niedermeyer in the past, sometimes paying $6 apiece for them,” according to a police affidavit.Niedermeyer admitted he gave the employee a Vicodin on Dec. 19, however, he claimed he received no money. He also told officers that he had a prescription for Vicodin.He is charged with possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance.9:30 p.m. Sunday — Cory D. Kuhrt, 21, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Allison Zang, during a domestic dispute at his Greenview Drive apartment.Zang told police that Kuhrt tackled her to the ground and threw her against the wall, court documents said. Police said she suffered minor injuries.Kuhrt was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.10:30 p.m. Friday — Jeanetta L. Emmert, 36, no known address, allegedly walked away on a $133 cab fare.Emmert earlier in the day got a ride with Cranberry Taxi from Brugh Avenue in Butler to Kittanning in Armstrong County, and back to South Main Street in Butler, court documents said.She told the cabbie she had to go into her apartment to get money for the fare. However, she never returned to pay her bill.Emmert is charged with theft of services.2:22 p.m. Thursday — John L. McClure, 32, no known address, was caught allegedly shoplifting merchandise from the Kmart store in Pullman Square. But before a store security employee could stop him, he ran off.Police reviewed store surveillance video and posted a photograph of the thief on the department's Facebook page. The posting elicited several messages, including a call from McClure's half-sister that helped police identify him, according to court documents.Police later obtained an arrest warrant for McClure on a charge of retail theft.
4:20 p.m. Sunday — Crystal LaChoppa, 22, of Butler and Chelsea Gurovich, 20, of Sarver were caught allegedly shoplifting merchandise from the Butler Commons' Walmart. Police said store security spotted the women putting items in Gurovich's purse. Both suspects are charged with retail theft.8:05 a.m. Sunday — Cynthia Sloan, 56, of Lyndora lost control of her vehicle and struck a mailbox on Remil Drive. Police cited Sloan for driving too fast for conditions.12:25 p.m. Saturday — Sarah Yost, 20, of McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, was arrested after allegedly shoplifting $254 in merchandise from the Trader Horn store in the Greater Butler Mart shopping plaza.Yost was arraigned on charges of retail theft, receiving stolen property and possession of drug paraphernalia, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.9:58 p.m. Friday — Patrick Cameron, 36, of Butler was arrested for public drunkenness after he was found lying in the middle of Hansen Avenue. Vehicles had to stop to avoid hitting him, police said.Cameron was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital.11:16 a.m. Friday — A vehicle driven by Julie Ann Kettner, 36, of Butler pulled into traffic and struck another vehicle on Route 68 at Stewart Street. Kettner and the other driver, Shannon Hartman, 24, of West Sunbury, were treated at the scene.Police cited Kettner for unsafely moving a stopped or parked vehicle.8:08 p.m. Wednesday — Richard Nevel, 69, of Butler is accused of arming himself with a can of body spray during a case of suspected road rage in the Butler Crossing shopping plazaPolice said the altercation occurred when Nevel became angry at another driver in the McDonald's restaurant drive-through. Nevel twice got out of his car to scream at the other driver.The second time he also grabbed a can of body spray from his car's center console and started beating on the vehicle's driver side window with it.Police cited Nevel for disorderly conduct.1:08 p.m. Jan. 6 — Timothy Wirtz, 26, and Kasey Oberst, 24, both of Valencia, were nabbed for shoplifting $179 in merchandise from the Greater Butler Mart's Trader Horn store. Both suspects are charged with retail theft.
9:15 a.m. Monday — Paula Blough, 50, of New Bethlehem, Clarion County, was arrested on a bench warrant after she turned herself in at the police station. The warrant was issued in 2007 for nonpayment of judgment. Blough made full payment and was released.Wednesday — A 17-year-old boy was charged with the Sept. 23 theft of a purse from a vehicle parked on South Broad Street. The teen, who police did not identify, faces theft charges in juvenile court.
9 a.m. Monday — Renee M. Henzel, 53, of Cabot was hurt when she lost control of her sport utility vehicle, striking a mailbox on Saxonburg Road in Jefferson Township.Henzel, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a moderate injury. She was cited for driving too fast for conditions.6:46 a.m. Monday — A pickup truck driven by Dorothia M. Dennison, 35, of West Sunbury crashed into a utility pole after hitting an ice patch and sliding off Branchton Road just south of Windy Road in Cherry Township. She was cited for a lane violation.5:45 a.m. Monday — One person was injured in a rear-end collision on Ekastown Road just west of Lardintown Road in Clinton Township. The crash happened when a pickup driven by Sean E. Smetanick, 43, of Leechburg, Armstrong County, struck the back of a car driven by James P. Schawl, 31, of Kittanning.Schawl, who was not wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Police cited Smetanick for driving too fast for conditions and for driving without insurance.
