Wednesday — A thief stole a stereo face plate and an auxiliary cord from a vehicle at a home in the 400 block of Zeigler Avenue. The stolen items are valued at $80. The theft happened between 6 a.m. and 3:30 p.m.
Wednesday — Police charged Timothy Waits, 50, of Evans City with driving under the influence stemming from a two-vehicle collision Nov. 22 at New Castle and Barracks roads.The crash happened when Waits' car crossed the double yellow lines and collided with a pickup truck driven by Shawn Aubrecht, 44, of Lyndora. Waits suffered a minor injury. Both vehicles had heavy front-end damage.Tuesday — Two 15-year-old boys, both of Butler, were cited after a fight at the Butler Intermediate High School. The boys are charged with disorderly conduct.
Nov. 25 — Jason D. Hovis, 30, of Center Township was charged with drugged driving in connection with a Nov. 5 traffic stop on Seventh Avenue.A patrolman was assisting in a traffic control call at Mars Valencia and Downieville roads about 12:35 p.m. when Hovis drove by in a dump truck with an attached trailer.“As this vehicle passed my location,” officer Brian Novosel said in charging documents, “I could smell a strong odor of marijuana coming from this vehicle.”The officer stopped Hovis a short time later. He admitted to smoking marijuana a “few minutes ago” on his lunch break, documents said. Police searched his lunch box and found marijuana.Additionally, the lunch box had two pill bottles without labels. One bottle had rolling papers and Suboxone wrappers in it.Hovis was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test. Toxicology results revealed the presence of THC, the hallucinogen found in marijuana.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, and possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Dec. 5 — Police charged Amanda J. Everett, 23, of Middlesex Township with drunken and drugged driving stemming from a near crash Oct. 10 on Lindsay Road.Everett is accused of stopping her car in the middle of the road shortly after midnight to check her global positioning system device. The driver of an oncoming vehicle had to swerve to avoid hitting her car.Officer Chris Miller was driving behind the other driver and saw the near accident. He stopped Everett, who claimed she was lost and trying to get back home.But Miller said he smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from her. He also saw a nearly empty bottle of red wine on the passenger seat floor.She admitted having two drinks that night and taking the anti-anxiety prescription drug Klonopin and the antidepressant drug Zoloft that same day, documents said.Everett failed several field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test, which later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.148 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.The toxicology reports also confirmed the presence of Klonopin and Zoloft in her system.Everett is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance and alcohol, driving with an open container of alcohol and making an improper stop.
10:04 a.m. Wednesday — Michael C. Cousins, 49, of Evans City was arrested for suspected drugged driving after a two-vehicle wreck that injured four people in Prospect. The crash happened when Cousins made a turn in front of a minivan on Route 422 just east of Main Gate Road.Cousins and his passenger, Gladys A. Cousins, 75, of Evans City, were both taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor and moderate injuries, respectively. Neither occupant was wearing a seat belt.Russell J. Shelok, 48, and his passenger, Bahar M. Shelock, 30, both of New Castle, were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.Michael Cousins was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of prescription medication. Additionally, he was cited for making an improper left turn and Russell Shelok was cited for driving with an expired inspection sticker.5:40 p.m. Tuesday — Brett F. Kyle, 22, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after a domestic dispute with his girlfriend at their home on Normal Avenue in Slippery Rock.Following the couple's argument, Kyle drove away from the home about 5 p.m. When he returned home, his girlfriend, who authorities did not identify, told investigators that he was “highly intoxicated” and his vehicle had “severe damage to the front,” according to a police report.5:22 p.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Ross P. Elliott, 20, of Chicora rear-ended another car on Route 68 just north of Constitution Avenue in Connoquenessing. Elliott faces a ticket for careless driving.Richard Stockard, 70, of Butler was the other driver.1:46 p.m. Tuesday — Gary Montgomery, no age or address given, was hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving struck a salt truck at Route 38 and Beach Road in Concord Township.Montgomery and his passenger fled the crash but were found a short time later. Montgomery suffered unknown injuries in the wreck.The report said police suspect Montgomery was driving under the influence and charges are pending toxicology results.Thomas Manuel, no age or address given, was driving the salt truck. He is a township supervisor.Chicora and North Washington volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.Tuesday — Someone broke the locking mechanism on a soft drink machine at the Trader Horn store on Route 422 in Franklin Township but was unable to open the machine. The attempted theft happened between Friday and Tuesday.Monday — A burglar stole about $1,853 in currency, a Nixon watch and two Xbox 360 video games from a man's apartment at the Cooper Street Apartments complex on West Cooper Street in Slippery Rock. The break-in happened between 7 and 8:30 p.m.Thursday — Police filed several charges against Robert Dale Walters, 39, of Prospect following an inspection mechanic investigation.Walters is accused of saving three expired inspection certificates while working as an inspection mechanic at Quality Auto Sales on Route 8 in Center Township.According to a police report, he fraudulently put new inserts on the expired certificates and used two of them on his vehicle and gave the other one to another person to use.Walters is charged with three counts each of altering or forging documents and violations of inspection certificates.
Dec. 3 — An 80-year-old Butler woman had undisclosed property taken from a vehicle that was broken into on Hudson Road in Millcreek Township. The thief broke out a window of the car owned by a 48-year-old Florida man.State Police, Kittanning3:19 p.m. Tuesday — Karima Fahad Atallah Al-Anazi, 22, of Ford City was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at Fifth and 16th streets in Ford City.
7:20 a.m. Tuesday — Vincent A. Klonowski, 37, of Grove City and Matthew P. Moreland, 25, of Uniontown, Fayette County, were hurt when the cars they were driving collided at George Junior Road and South Center Street Extension in Pine Township, Mercer County.Both drivers were treated at the scene for minor injuries. Both were wearing seat belts.The roads were ice-covered, and Klonowski was cited for driving too fast for conditions.4:10 p.m. Sunday — Someone stole a Pittsburgh woman's purse that was left unattended on a bench at the Premium Outlets' Nike store in Springfield Township.7 p.m. Friday — An unknown woman stole four watches from the Premium Outlets' Coach store in Springfield Township. The watches are valued at a combined $912.
Dec. 3 — Someone fired two bullets into a vehicle parked on Maddlin Drive in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The vehicle, owned by an Ohio pest control company, was shot at sometime Dec. 2 or 3.
