Butler PoliceFriday — Joseph J. Bell, 23, of Pittsburgh was charged with drugged driving stemming from a December traffic stop in the area of East Locust and Franklin streets. Police said Bell ran away after being stopped but was caught a short time later.According to court documents, a patrol officer was traveling on East Locust Street approaching Franklin Street when he encountered Bell’s car. When the suspect’s car turned from Franklin Street onto East Locust Street, the officer had to swerve to avoid a crash.Police made a traffic stop but after pulling over, Bell allegedly took off running between houses before jumping a fence. During his would-be getaway, documents said, he ran onto a porch on the 300 block of East Locust Street.He was arrested moments later. Police said when they got to his car, they smelled marijuana coming from it. Bell allegedly admitted smoking marijuana earlier in the day.Police took the suspect to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results eventually confirmed he had marijuana in his system.Bell is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license-DUI related and careless driving.Thursday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Tiffany N. Hilliard, 20, no known address, stemming from a suspected hit-and-run crash last year on the 400 block of West Jefferson Street. She is accused of driving away after her pickup truck struck another vehicle. No injuries were reported.Police said she was later identified and is charged with hit-and-run, driving with a suspended license and making an improper left turn.

Adams Twp Police12:49 a.m. Saturday — Jeffrey D. Madaffari, 58, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend and threatened to club her with a metal pole during a domestic dispute at their home on West Village Green Boulevard.The alleged victim, Colleen Jakubovic, told police she was in the bathroom when the defendant yelled at her, according to court documents. He is accused of pulling her out of the bathroom and then pushing her into the foot of the bed, causing her to fall and injure the left side of her back.When she tried to get up, documents said, the suspect shoved her back to the floor, where she hit her head. Madaffari began to call Jakubovic derogatory names before he kicked her. She ended up falling down the steps onto the landing.The defendant pushed her down the remainder of the stairs, documents said. The victim told police she went into the garage to leave but her boyfriend followed her there.Jakubovic recounted that when she pulled her car out of the garage, Madaffari came at her with a metal pole. She described him as holding it like a baseball bat.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the suspect on charges of terroristic threats, harassment and two counts of simple assault He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

Butler Twp Police4:24 p.m. Saturday — Randall T. Kelley, 22, of Slippery Rock was found with suspected marijuana and drug contraband after police were called for a suspicious vehicle at Moraine Pointe Plaza. He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.1:11 p.m. Saturday — A car driven by Mowgli C. Weaver, 19, of Pittsburgh struck another vehicle at Old Plank and Crosslands roads. No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Weaver for a stop sign violation. Shannon Schwab, 46, of Butler was the other driver.7:19 a.m. Friday — Jacob D. Kirby, 26, of Butler lost control of his vehicle and struck another vehicle traveling in the opposite direction on Route 68. Police cited Kirby for disregarding traffic lanes. Carol Smeltzler, 46, of Chicora was the other driver.Friday — Police charged a Mercer County contractor with taking money for a fence project that he never completed. The suspect, Jordan T. Lavan, 24, of Marion Center, is charged with theft by deception.Friday — Christina L. Smith, 50, of Lyndora was charged with a Dec. 16 shoplifting incident at the Walmart at Butler Commons. Police said she was caught walking out of the store with $316 worth of unpaid merchandise. Smith is charged with a felony count of retail theft and summary defiant trespass.2:07 p.m. Jan. 3 — Terri L. Cowperthwait, 54, of Karns City was allegedly caught shoplifting nine items valued at $311 at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. She is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Cranberry Twp Police11:37 p.m. Saturday — Ashley N. Nixon, 20, of Niagara Falls, N.Y., was arrested after she allegedly caused a drunken disturbance at the Hyatt Place hotel on Emeryville Drive.Nixon is accused of becoming loud and vulgar and awakening other guests. At one point, after police arrived, she left her room and then tried to get into another room, believing it was hers, court documents said.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned the defendant on charges of disorderly conduct and public drunkenness. She was placed in Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail following arraignment.

Slippery Rock PoliceWednesday — Police charged Nicholas J. Lucia, 23, of Mount Pleasant, Westmoreland County, in connection with a suspected assault in October. He is accused of getting into an altercation with and assaulting another man about 2:45 a.m. Oct. 16 on Cornish Drive near South Main Street,The alleged victim, Shane M. Ging, told police that Lucia punched him in the face, according to court documents. Ging fell to the ground and covered his face while the suspect stood over him and continued punching the man.Ging later returned to his apartment before going to the Grove City Medical Center the next day. He told police that he suffered a broken nose in the suspected assault, and that he also needed stitches.Lucia is charged with simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct.

Butler County Sheriff’s Office1:14 p.m. Thursday — Amanda J. McCune, 23, of Butler was allegedly caught with a set of brass knuckles at the Butler County Government Center on West Diamond Street in Butler.Authorities said the X-ray machine in the lobby detected the metal knuckles in McCune’s purse. She was arraigned on charges of possession of a prohibited offensive weapon and possession of a dangerous weapon in a court facility, and released on her own recognizance.
