Butler Police10:28 p.m. Sunday — Robert J. Buck, 47, of Boyers was hurt when he crashed his motorcycle on Pillow Street. Police suspect alcohol was a factor in the wreck.Officers were initially called to the crash scene for a man lying on the road. Police said they found Buck bleeding from the head. He was conscious but not answering questions. He also smelled of alcohol, according to a police report.Two witnesses reported seeing the wreck. One witness saw the bike skidding just before crashing. The other witness, who believed the cycle was speeding, saw the driver fall off the bike.Paramedics tended to Buck before he was eventually flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. His condition this morning was not available.Investigators said charges are pending results of a blood test. Police also noted that Buck was driving with a suspended license from a previous DUI arrest.4:09 p.m. Thursday — Tammie R. Hohman, 52, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was caught allegedly shoplifting $155.39 in merchandise at the Kmart store at Pullman Square.Hohman is accused of trying to steal four infant outfits, a diaper bag, three pairs of sunglasses, a dog collar and cosmetics. The suspect, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
Butler Twp Police3:08 p.m. Friday — Vehicles driven by Aline Haag, 64, of Butler and Rachel Varner, 21, of West Mifflin, Allegheny County, collided on South Benbrook Road near Greenwood Drive. No one was injured but Haag’s vehicle had to be towed.11:41 a.m. Friday — Vehicles driven by Marjorie Miller, 86, and Michael Rehm, 51, both of Butler collided on Route 8 north near the Bon Aire Plaza. No one was injured but Miller’s vehicle had to be towed.7:41 p.m. Aug. 31 — Vehicles driven by David M. Lesney, 30, and James Russell, 72, both of Butler, collided at Highfield Road and East Boundary Street. Police cited Lesney for a stop sign violation.
Butler County Drug Task ForceSaturday — John W. Thoma, 29, of Center Township and Anthony S. McGuire, 37, of Greenville, Mercer County, were both charged with possession of drug contraband stemming from a traffic stop last month on East Quarry Street.An officer initially spotted the suspects in a car driven by Thoma that was stopped about 7:50 p.m. Aug. 4 at a known drug house on Walker Avenue, according to court documents.The officer stopped the car a short time later on East Quarry Street near Center Avenue. A subsequent search of Thoma turned up four stamp bags and five empty bags of suspected heroin, two syringes and a crack pipe, documents said.Authorities said they found McGuire with a crack pipe. An additional bag of suspected heroin, a syringe and a spoon also were seized from the car.Thoma is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and driving with a suspended license. McGuire is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia,
State Police, ButlerTuesday — Police charged Justin R. Dean, 26, of Butler with being more than double the legal limit for alcohol on July 30 when he was stopped for traffic violations in Butler.A breath test following the traffic stop on South Seventh Street, court documents said, showed his blood alcohol level was 0.181 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Dean is charged with not using turn signals and not using low beams when approaching another vehicle.Tuesday — John E. Hardisty, 43, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop about 12:25 a.m. July 27 in Butler.Police said that following the stop on Route 8 south, they suspected Hardisty was impaired on drugs. He admitted to have smoked marijuana that day, according to court documents. He also handed over a pill bottle containing suspected marijuana and a marijuana pipe.Hardisty was later taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports confirmed he had marijuana in his system, documents said.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving an unregistered vehicle and careless driving.12:31 a.m. Sunday — Dustin Doss, 25, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of DUI on Route 8 in Center Township.Sunday — An unknown burglar stole several items during a break-in at the Cooper Street Apartments in Slippery Rock. The burglar used an unlocked window or sliding door to enter the residents’ apartment between 10 p.m. Saturday and 5 a.m. Sunday.Stolen in the burglary were two laptop computers, a high-definition television set, a Nintendo video game system and a projector. One of the victims encountered the suspect and “was able to get his laptop and projector back,” according to a police report.The suspect is described as a white man, in his early 20s with short blonde hair. He is about 5 feet, 7 inches tall and 170 pounds. He was wearing a gray T-shirt, dark cargo shorts and sneakers.No other information was available, and police could not be reached for comment this morning.9 p.m. Saturday — One person was hurt when a sport utility vehicle driven by John K. Keyho, 57, of Pittsburgh struck an unoccupied all-terrain vehicle that was left in the slow lane on Interstate 79 south in Worth Township.Police believe the ATV had fallen off a utility trailer when Keyho’s SUV hit it. One of his passengers, Mary L. King-Keyho, 60, of Pittsburgh, suffered a minor injury.The ATV owner, who police did not identify, later returned to the crash scene to retrieve the vehicle. Police said the owner received multiple citations.Saturday — Someone vandalized the fence at a 64-year-old man’s home on East Water Street in Slippery Rock. A police report said the investigation continues but it did not indicate if there are any suspects.Aug. 30 — A 1961 Harley- Davidson FLH motorcycle was stolen from a home on Sunset Drive in Center Township. A police report did not say if there are any suspects. The investigation continues.
State Police, Kittanning3:30 a.m. Sunday — Kenneth L. McGuire, 28, of Leechburg was hurt when he lost control of his car on Route 268 at Ridge Road in East Franklin Township, hitting a PennDOT sign and tree. Police said he tried to drive away but couldn’t due to several flat tires. He walked away instead.McGuire was cited for driving at an unsafe speed, according to a police report.
State Police, MercerTuesday — An unknown thief stole a laptop computer from a PennDOT building on Franklin Road in Jackson Township, Mercer County. The Dell Latitude 6530 computer was taken between 3 p.m. Friday and 1 p.m. Tuesday.
State Police, New CastleMonday — An unknown vandal damaged a mailbox at a 68-year-old woman’s home in the 3700 block of Frew Mill Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The vandalism happened between Saturday and Monday.11:50 p.m. Sunday — An unidentified vehicle, possibly a dark colored Jeep Cherokee, backed into a mailbox in Pine Township, Mercer County. The unknown driver did not stop after hitting and damaging the mailbox on Francis Avenue.A witness reported seeing the suspected vehicle drive away north on Route 173. Anyone with information about the hit-and-run crash is asked to call police at 724-662-6162.
