7:29 a.m. March 21 — Kendra L. Caldwell, 17, of Fenelton lost control of her car and struck a fire hydrant, tree, street sign and a meter on a pole along West Jefferson Street. She told police the accident happened after she briefly took her eyes off the road.
[naviga:h2]Butler Twp Police[/naviga:h2]
March 13 — Police charged Robert A. Beidenbach, 55, of Butler with making three false returns last fall at Ollie’s Bargain Outlet at Moraine Pointe Plaza. The returns occurred between Nov. 3 and 27 and included merchandise valued at a combined $279.97. Beidenbach is charged with three counts of theft by deception.
[naviga:h2]Evans City-Seven Fields Regional Police[/naviga:h2]
Tuesday — Police charged an Armstrong County woman with leaving her 6-week-old son alone at the home of her boyfriend’s parents in Evans City while she drank at a bar last month.
The suspect, Alexandra J. Harmon, 26, of Ford City, is also accused of ransacking the home in the 400 block of East Main Street.
Harmon is charged with child endangerment, disorderly conduct and criminal mischief.
Police said the suspect’s boyfriend, Benjamin Owens, called authorities shortly before 1 a.m. March 19 to report a disturbance at the home where he and the defendant had been staying over the weekend.
Owens said he and his girlfriend about 10 p.m. March 18 had gotten into an argument. He left the home to “cool off,” according to court documents. The couple’s infant son was also at the home.
He said about 12:15 a.m., Harmon sent him several photos of herself at a bar holding drinks. Owens rushed back to the home, fearing the defendant had left their son alone.
The infant was unsupervised but unharmed, document said. But the house had been badly damaged, allegedly at the hands of Harmon.
[naviga:h2]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h2]
11:47 p.m. April 1 — Daniel Emile Allen, 53, of Slippery Rock Township was arrested after he allegedly ran a stop sign and then led police on a vehicle chase through and out of the borough.
The pursuit continued on Stoughton Road in Slippery Rock Township where Allen’s car struck an embankment. But he did not stop, court documents said, and ran two more stop signs before turning onto Route 173. The defendant lost control of his car a short time later while turning onto Country Lane. The car traveled through a lawn, damaging the property. Still, police said, Allen kept going.
He continued on Route 173 before crossing Route 8 and traveling onto Halston Road, Kiesterhouse Road and Stamm Road. He eventually turned off the road and began to travel along railroad tracks.
About one-half mile traveling off road, the chase ended, police said, when Allen lost control of his car.
The defendant smelled of alcohol and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.088 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
Allen was arraigned on a felony charge of fleeing or attempting to elude police. Additionally, he is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license and eight other traffic violations. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail after arraignment.
[naviga:h2]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h2]
Tuesday — Police arrested an Allegheny County man on charges he broke into an apartment last month at The Grove on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.
Troopers were called to the apartment March 28 for a domestic dispute between the suspect, Christian J. Mahoney, 20, of Verona, and his ex-girlfriend, who lives there, according to court documents.
The alleged victim, Megan H. Esquino, told police that the defendant damaged a lock and door handle while entering the apartment without her permission or knowledge. He allegedly grabbed and pushed Esquino.
While the woman later tried to leave in her roommate’s car, documents said, Mahoney “pulled her from the vehicle throwing her to the ground.” He fled and was gone when police got there.
Mahoney was arraigned Tuesday on felony charges of burglary and trespass, and summary charges of harassment and criminal mischief. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
11:30 p.m. March 31 — A Pittsburgh teenager was arrested after a knife-wielding altercation at the University Village apartments in Slippery Rock Township.
Ty O. Washington, 19, of Pittsburgh is accused of showing up at the apartment complex and smelling of alcohol. A tenant told police that the suspect was “visibly upset” and holding a knife.
The tenant, a woman, also recounted hearing the teen say he was “going to kill him,” according to court documents.
Washington was already detained at the University Village guard shack when police got there. He told troopers that he had attended a gathering at one of the apartments earlier that night when he got into a confrontation with another man. He claimed that at some point he feared for his safety and pulled his knife, documents said. He admitted having consumed two shots of vodka.
Washington was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, disorderly conduct, harassment and underage drinking. He was released on $10,000 unsecured bail.
[naviga:h2]Slippery Rock University Police[/naviga:h2]
2:18 a.m. March 30 — Joseph D. Steiner, 22, of Mercer Township was arrested for alleged drunken driving — more than three times the legal limit for alcohol — in a dune buggy on the Slippery Rock University campus.
Police said an officer on patrol spotted the suspect in a blue dune buggy spinning his tires on the East Central Loop before nearly hitting a stop sign and concrete island.
The vehicle eventually came out of gear and coasted into a nearby intersection. “The driver continued to grind the gears,” according to court documents, “then took off going the wrong way on a one-way street (Field House Drive).”
The officer stopped Steiner, who was eventually taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.249 percent A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
He is charged with driving under the influence and two traffic violations.
[naviga:h2]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h2]
7:46 a.m. Tuesday — No one was injured in a three-vehicle wreck in O’Hara Township, Allegheny County. The drivers were Edward H. Cassell, 19, of New Kensington, Westmoreland County; Darlene M. Pastierik, 47, of Natrona Heights; and Justin L. Kovach, 27, of Saxonburg.
Police cited Cassell for following too closely to another vehicle.
6:14 p.m. Monday — A Ford City man was arrested on charges he inappropriately touched two girls at the Hilltop Plaza Walmart in East Franklin Township.
The suspect, 38-year-old Michael A. Larimer, was arraigned on two counts each of indecent assault and harassment, and a charge of public drunkenness. He is free on $5,000 bail.
5:38 a.m. Monday — A pickup truck driven by William L. Daniel, 37, of Worthington struck a deer on Route 422 just east of Graff Farm Road in West Franklin Township.
3:52 a.m. April 2 — A 45-year-old Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 28 south in South Buffalo Township. Police, who did not identify the suspect, said charges are pending lab results.
3:08 a.m. April 2 — A 54-year-old Sarver woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 28 south in North Buffalo Township. Police said charges are pending lab results.
