Today — Police reported that Ahmad E. Rashad, 54, of Butler faces theft-related charges for allegedly posing as a landlord and renting an apartment to a Butler woman.The 45-year-old woman told police that on Feb. 14 she gave Rashad $350 for the first month's rent at the East Locust Street apartment building where the suspect also lived. The woman said she later was informed that Rashad was not the landlord and did not have authority to rent the unit.According to a police report, investigators also learned the defendant, claiming to be the “property manager,” hired the Wymer Co. of Butler to repair a gas line at the building, but had not paid the $450 bill for the work.Police spoke to the building owner, Kenneth Denzer of Mercer, who said the property was in foreclosure, and that he never gave Rashad permission to collect rent or make repairs there.When police contacted Rashad, according to the report, he “denied making any claims to being the landlord.”Police said he is charged with theft by deception and theft of services.

2:14 a.m. Sunday — Richard D. Hill, 54, of Slippery Rock was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence at Route 8 and Hall Road in Brady Township.6 p.m. Saturday — Tara Batykefer, 18, of Butler was seriously hurt when the car she was driving collided with a sport utility vehicle on Route 356 at Sportman's Supply in Summit Township.Batykefer was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital and later flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh; her condition was not known this morning.The other driver, Timothy S. Hoffman, 21, of Butler suffered a minor injury. Police said both drivers were wearing seat belts.4:06 a.m. Saturday — A New Jersey trucker delivering mail for the U.S. Postal Service lost control of his tractor-trailer and crashed over an embankment on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. The southbound rig landed on its roof. Driver Arnold Botella, 46, of Jersey City, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry with minor injuries. Police said Botella was cited for unspecified traffic violations.3:50 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Joseph G. Rearick, 20, of Clarion rear-ended another car on I-79 in Muddy Creek Township. The other driver, Jacob E. Holzhauser, 25, of New Castle, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury. Police said Rearick was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.Saturday — Cooper wire and Romex wire, used car batteries, extension cords and aluminum sheeting were stolen from a property at 173 Snake Road in Parker Township. The items, valued at $400, were stolen between March 29 and Saturday.Friday — A cash box containing $5,453 was stolen in a burglary at Meadows Manor on Freeport Road in Jefferson Township. The break-in happened Thursday or Friday.Friday — A blue, 2004 Jeep Cherokee Laredo with a Virginia license plate was stolen from the Michael's Restaurant parking lot on Route 422 in Franklin Township. The theft occurred Thursday or Friday.Friday — An Xbox 360 video game system was stolen from a car at the Clearview Mall parking lot in Center Township. The stolen- property, taken between 4:30 and 5:40 p.m., is worth $300.March 26 — A tan Coach purse and a pink Canon digital camera were stolen during a party at a South Main Street home in Slippery Rock. The stolen property, is valued at $400.

3:10 p.m. Saturday — Mari John, 42, of Worthington and Nathan Manfredi, 22, of Kittanning were hurt when cars they were driving collided head-on on Wible Read near Westgate Drive in East Franklin Township. John and Manfredi were taken to undisclosed hospital with moderate and major injuries, respectively.Police said John was wearing a seat belt; Manfredi was not. Both cars sustained severe damage.Saturday — A Dell desk top computer monitor and tower and a Dell laptop computer were stolen from a pair of makeshift offices at a job site on Route 128 in South Buffalo Township. The property, stolen between 2 p.m. Friday and 6:45 a.m. Saturday, is owned by the state Department of Transportation and Russell Standard of Cadogan.
