11:24 p.m. Saturday — An Ohio man was arrested and jailed following a traffic stop at West Cunningham and Pillow streets. Luther M. Nicholas Jr., 23, was stopped driving a sport utility vehicle with a broken out tailgate.Police said Nicholas had no identification and gave officers a bogus name. He was taken to the station where he was identified by Live Scan, a digital fingerprint scan, according to a police report.A check later found that his driver's license in Ohio was suspended.Nicholas, who is charged with false information to police, driving with a suspended license and a lighting violation, was placed in the Butler County Prison.7:55 a.m. Saturday — A man allegedly under the influence of drugs apparently mistook a police officer for a panhandler.Police said they found Steven Vlassich, 25, of Butler staggering about West Cunningham Street near Rotary Park. When they stopped him, according to a police report, he handed an officer a $5 bill from his wallet. Asked to explain his action, police said, Vlassich explained that he thought the officer was asking for money.A search later found the suspect with a pill of buprenorphone hydrochloride, a painkiller for which he had no prescription. Vlassich is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.12:55 p.m. Friday — Sharon Lee Necessary, 58, of Butler was arrested after she allegedly shoplifted containers of coffee and spices at the Friedman's supermarket on West Brady Street.While the value of the items was just $5, according to a police report, Necessary was cited for felony retail theft because she has three prior arrests for retail theft in West Virginia. She was arraigned and later placed in the Butler County Prison.Friday — An unidentified yellow vehicle overnight struck a car parked at the Moose parking lot in the 200 block of West Jefferson Street, and did not stop after the crash. The car, owned by a West Sunbury woman, sustained damage to the fender and a scrape mark along the passenger side.7:28 a.m. Wednesday — A Butler boy was hurt when a car hit him on East Jefferson Street, just east of McKean Street. Police said 11-year-old Christopher Losser ran in front of the car driven by James R. Leitem, 67, of Summit Township.The boy suffered minor injuries but did not need hospital treatment. No charges were filed.7:30 p.m. Tuesday — Travis A. Evans, 22, of Butler was cited after a U-Haul trailer being towed by a van he was driving struck a fire hydrant at North Chestnut and West North streets. The hydrant sustained about $3,000 in damage. Police said Evans was cited for driving with a suspended license, driving without insurance and careless driving.
9:45 a.m. Saturday — A car driven by Scott Geibel Jr., 17, of Fenelton crashed into several shrubs, also damaging a lawn, on Hinchberger Road in Summit Township.8:55 p.m. Aug. 10 — An armed security officer is accused of shoving a boy during an argument at the Butler Farm Show ground on Route 68 in Connoquenessing Township. A police report said the suspect, Robert V. Hairhoger, 21, of Slippery Rock, allegedly became “disorderly and unruly” when other security officers escorted him from the premises.Hairhoger is charged with disorderly conduct and harassment.
9:10 a.m. Saturday — A car driven by Jose Valladares, 39, of Shippenville, Clarion County, struck an embankment and rolled onto its roof on Route 268, just east of Fifth Street in Emlenton. Valladres told police he lost control of the car when he swerved to avoid a deer on the road. Police said he faces tickets for driving at an unsafe speed and other traffic violations.
Sunday — Two wooden wagon wheels were stolen from the front yard of a home on Cranberry Road near Emerald Drive in Pine Township. The wheels are valued at $150.9:05 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Christopher J. Harris, 32, of Slippery Rock crashed into a tree along Diamond Road, just north of Pinchalong Road in Pine Township. Police said Harris was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.2:35 p.m. Friday — Two people including a Butler County woman were hurt in a two-vehicle crash on Interstate 79 near Plain Grove-North Liberty Road in Plain Grove Township.Arda J. McAndrew, 64, of Butler, a passenger in a sport utility vehicle, suffered minor injuries. The crash happened when a pickup truck driven by Zachary T. Rodriguez, 25, of Oil City, Venango County, struck the rear of the SUV driven by Carl F. Cross, 67, of Erie.Rodriguez also suffered minor injuries. He and McAndrew both were wearing seat belts. Police said Rodriguez was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
