Thursday — Police charged Michael Lee Taylor, 22, of Butler with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop about 12:30 a.m. Aug. 10 on Route 8 south. Toxicology results received this week showed Taylor's blood-alcohol level was 0.204 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Taylor is charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.Wednesday — A Warren County man is accused of failing to return on time — or not at all — equipment he rented this year at Kenmac Rental and Sales on South Main Street.Jerry Lee Jansens, 44, of Clarendon on April 1 signed an agreement with the business to lease a floor sander and 100 sanding discs. He was supposed to return the property the next day, but didn't.The sander was not returned until May 4. The discs have never been returned. The business sent Jansens a certified letter June 18, but the letter was returned “not deliverable.”Jansens is charged with theft of services. Kenmac is seeking $623.20 in restitution.7:24 p.m. Saturday — David F. Blake, 44, of Butler was arrested on a warrant at a home in the 400 block of West North Street. Blake was wanted on an arrest warrant police obtained Sept. 3 in connection with a felony shoplifting case.He was arraigned on a charge of retail theft and released on his own recognizance.
Thursday — Police charged Elizabeth Schwartz, 21, of Cranberry Township with drugged driving stemming from a crash Sept. 16 on Whitestown Road. Schwartz lost control of her sport utility vehicle about 2:10 p.m., which rolled over several times before hitting a treeSchwartz was flown by medical helicopter to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh, where she was treated for injuries and released.She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, driving at an unsafe speed, reckless driving and careless driving.7:20 p.m. Wednesday — Brandi T. Plaisted, 23, of Butler and Nicole E. Muskey, 22, of Cranberry Township were arrested after they allegedly shoplifted $750 in merchandise at the Butler Commons' Walmart.Plaisted and Muskey were both arraigned on charges of theft and conspiracy, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail each.8:48 a.m. Wednesday — Emma Teitt, 87, of Butler was hurt when a vehicle rear-ended the vehicle she was driving on North Main Street at Filbert Road. Teitt was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with chest pains. The other driver, Eric Walter, 40, of Lyndora, was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
10:45 p.m. Tuesday — William Chadbolt's dog got loose from his home in the 600 block of Flower Avenue. The dog ran after another dog, scratching its owner, who tried to get away. Chadbolt was cited for not confining his dog.
10:38 p.m. Thursday — Four people were hurt when the pickup truck they were riding in crashed into a tree in Center Township. Police said Nathan Oesterling, 20, of Butler was going too fast around a curve when he lost control of the pickup on Jamisonville Road, rolled over and slammed into the tree.One of Oesterling's three passengers, William Schaffner, 20, of Butler, was flown by medical helicopter to UPMC Presbyterian in Pittsburgh with severe injuries.Oesterling and two other passengers, Randy Halstead, 19, of West Sunbury and Alyssa Hartman, 18, of Butler, were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor to moderate injuries. None of the truck's four occupants were wearing seat belts.Wednesday — A lock box used to store medication was stolen from the Amity Slippery Rock Personal Care Home on Ralston Road in Slippery Rock Township. The property was taken between 4 p.m. Tuesday and 8:30 a.m. Wednesday.Wednesday — An arrest warrant was issued for Elizabeth A. Cosme, 34, of Butler in connection with a suspected drug deal last year in Butler.Following a cell phone call to set up the deal May 22, 2012, according to court documents, Cosme allegedly sold a bundle of heroin and $100 in crack cocaine to a police informant in an alley between Mackey and Brugh avenues.Cosme is charged with two counts of delivery of a controlled substance and criminal use of a communication facility, all felonies, and two misdemeanor counts each of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
6:29 p.m. Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Charles J. Cippel, 17, of Ford City crashed and overturned on Golf Course Road in Manor Township. Cippel was cited for careless driving.State Police, Mercer12:34 a.m. today — Calvin R. Stull, 58, of Kittanning was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after he was found passed out behind the wheel on Route 422 in Manor Township.Sunday — Three items worth a combined $1,600 were stolen from the yard of a home in the 1400 block of Route 19 in Fairview Township, Mercer County.The stolen property included an 11-foot aluminum brake, 22-foot aluminum extension ladder and a 22-foot aluminum walk board.Police said they have no suspects in the theft that happened between Sept. 14 and Sunday.11:48 a.m. Saturday — A driver from Butler was blamed for causing a four-vehicle, chain-reaction crash in Liberty Township Mercer County. That driver, who police did not identify, was unable to stop and struck the rear of a car stopped at a red light.The car, driven by Zoe A. Weaver, 18, of Wintersville, Ohio, was pushed into the back of a sport utility vehicle that was also stopped at the light. Jordyn A. Litman, 19, of North Canton, Ohio, was driving the SUV.Moments after the first collision, another SUV, driven by Wendy S. Downs, 35, of Slippery Rock, struck the back of a car that the unidentified Butler male was driving. Downs was unable to avoid hitting the car because the unidentified driver had applied his brakes too late. That driver was cited for following too closely to another vehicle.5 p.m. Sept. 20 — A pickup truck driven by Caleb D. Childs, 19, of Grove City fishtailed on a curve and struck a utility pole along rain-soaked Irishtown Road just south of Clintonville Road in Pine Township. Child's passenger, Melody J. Childs, 24, of Grove City, suffered a minor injury. Caleb Childs was cited for a lane violation.
Thursday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement reported that two Butler County eateries have been cited for violating the state liquor law.One of the businesses, Burghers on Route 19 in Jackson Township is charged with permitting others to operate a business on its licensed premises between April 1, 2012, and July 19 of this year.The other business, Serventi's on South Chestnut Street in Butler, is charged with selling alcohol in July and August after its liquor license expired on June 30.The charges against both establishments will be brought before an administrative law judge who can impose penalties.
