5:49 a.m. Wednesday — April M. Fair, 36, Ronda K. Murtland, 58, and Christine M. Chamnik, 36, all of Butler, were charged with writing bad checks to Friedman's Freshmarket on West Brady Street.The store reported Fair wrote a check for $61.52, Murtland wrote a check for $13.57, and Chamnik wrote a check for $140.78.None of the woman allegedly responded to letters from the store.8:53 a.m. Tuesday — A hit-and-run accident occurred in the 200 block of Maple Avenue.Robert Goeppner, 49, reported to police he saw a black SUV hit the side of his neighbor's parked Jeep.Goeppner said a blonde woman in her 40s got out of the vehicle at the end of the street, but fled when he called out to her.The parked Jeep belonged to Rae C. Seybert, 78.

5:30 p.m. Tuesday — A ring was turned in to township police. It was found at the Greater Butler Mart area.To claim the ring, call 724-285-9600 and give a description.8:04 p.m. Thursday — Elizabeth M. Chiesa, 27, of Butler and Hillary M. Jackson, 24, of Kittanning were charged with retail theft after they allegedly attempted to steal items from Walmart at Butler Commons.Chiesa also was charged with defiant trespass due to receiving a notice against trespass from the store in 2009.5:40 p.m. Thursday — Cars driven by Dennis Mock, 69, of Butler and Devon Smith, 25, of Portersville collided at the intersection of Meridian Road and Whitestown Road.Police said Smith failed to yield to oncoming traffic while making a turn, causing Mock to collide with his vehicle.Both men were able to drive away from the scene.4:54 p.m. Wednesday — Ashli Dove, 20, of Butler and Matthew Cline, 30, of Slippery Rock were charged with criminal conspiracy and retail theft after allegedly attempting to steal more than $400 worth of merchandise from Walmart in Butler Commons.

8:05 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Shelby M. King, 23, of Cooperstown hit a deer on Interstate 79 in Jackson Township.King's car was then rear-ended by a car driven by Donald F. Zirkle, 78, of Meadville.No one was injured in the accident.4:30 p.m. Friday — A 16-year-old boy escaped from the Summit Academy on Herman Road in Summit Township. The boy was found a short time later and returned to the academy.Charges for escape were filed through Butler County Juvenile Court.9 a.m. Thursday — Police said a Petrolia man may be the victim of identity theft.Curtis File, 36, reported he tried to file for his federal tax return, but the IRS already had his Social Security number documented as receiving a refund check of about $2,500.

8:49 a.m. Friday — A tractor-trailer hit the right side of a car along Interstate 80 when the truck was attempting to merge for a single-lane construction zone.Police said the driver of the rig, who they did not identify, passed both merging and reduced-speed limit signs as he approached the Emlenton Bridge in Allegheny Township.The driver did not attempt to merge into the left lane until he was close to the barrier separating the blocked-off lane, police said.The truck driver was cited for a lane violation.

5:53 p.m. Friday — A 71-year-old Kittanning man was arrested for a suspected DUI along Route 28 in Buffalo Township after he was stopped for a traffic violation. Police did not release the name of the man.

Tuesday — Jeffrey P. Emery, 45, of Grove City reported someone stole prescription medication from his home on Old Ash Road in Springfield Township, Mercer County.April 4 — Someone stole two motorcycles from a garage on Old Ash Road in Springfield Township, Mercer County.The garage belonged to Stede J. Hill, 36, while the motorcycles belonged to Lawrence J. Simonetta, 43, of Mercer and Grove City Motorsports.The value of the two motorcycles was estimated to be $1,000.
