6:35 p.m. Friday — No one was injured when a car's engine compartment caught fire at South Chestnut and Birch streets.The driver, Brandy L. Cable, 31, of Karns City, told police the car stalled and started to coast on South Chestnut Street. When she tried to start the vehicle again, the engine compartment began to smoke before it caught fire.Cable and her four passengers, including three children between 11 and 14 years old, got out safely.

12:36 a.m. Monday — Thomas W. McCune, Jr., 46, of Saxonburg was arrested after he was caught allegedly shoplifting $31.68 worth of merchandise from the Butler Commons' Walmart. Police said he also was found with suspected marijuana.McCune, who has at least two prior convictions for shoplifting, was arraigned on felony counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, and misdemeanor charges of possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.Monday — Police charged Benjamin C. Knight, 29, of Cabot with drunken driving and felony firearms possession stemming from a crash last month after he lost control of his motorcycle on Litman Road. He was treated at Butler Memorial Hospital for injuries suffered in the wreck.Knight is charged with carrying a firearm without a permit, driving under the influence, driving without a court-ordered ignition interlock system, driving at an unsafe speed, driving without insurance, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with expired inspection, careless driving and reckless driving.12:58 a.m. Sunday — Two Butler women were charged with disorderly conduct following a disturbance at Cav's Place on Bessemer Avenue in Lyndora.The suspects, Ashley N. Oesterling, 27, and Amanda L. White, 33, were in an argument when Oesterling knocked a drink out of White's hands. White responded by allegedly punching Oesterling.7:53 p.m. Saturday — Dennis J. Climo, 52, of Renfrew was caught allegedly shoplifting $165 in merchandise from the Walmart at Butler Commons. Climo is charged with retail theft and receiving stolen property.10:46 a.m. Saturday — Richard Michaels, 69, of Butler was hurt when he suffered an unspecified medical condition and crashed his car on Benbrook Road near Greenwood Drive.Butler Township Fire District 3 volunteer firefighters had to extricate Michaels from his vehicle. A medical helicopter later flew him to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries.5:08 p.m. Friday — Robert L. Murray, 51, of McKees Rocks, Allegheny County, was caught at the Butler Commons' Walmart, where he had been barred June 21 after being stopped for shoplifting. Police cited him for defiant trespass.12:54 a.m. Friday — Two burglars left empty handed after breaking into a former laboratory building at Preston Park. The break-in set off a burglar alarm, which possibly scared off the unknown suspects.Officers got there and found an open window on the building's second floor. Police said they founded wet footprints on the roof, indicating two burglars had scaled the building and opened the window.The suspects entered the building and in doing so set off the alarm. They left through the same window. Nothing was believed stolen from the building.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.6:28 a.m. July 29 — Three Butler men were caught on Buffalo & Pittsburgh Railroad property along East Jefferson Street carrying back packs filled with scrap metal allegedly stolen from the railroad. The scrap was valued at an estimated $40.Charged with theft, receiving stolen property and defiant trespass are James A. Evans, 31; Curtis K. Goff, 20; and Steven D. Pintell, 23.

Monday — Police cited a 17-year-old boy, who they did not identify, for shoplifting a bag of candy from a business in the 100 block of Mill Street on July 31. The boy is charged with retail theft.Friday — Police charged three men in connection with an incident near the parking lot of the Save-A-Lot store on Mill Street.Cited for disorderly conduct are Jeremiah D. Ryhal, 19, of Volant, Lawrence County, and Brandon J. Seelbaugh, 24, and Zachary J. Surrena, 19, both of Grove City.Police said Seelbaugh also was arrested on two unspecified warrants.July 23 — A vandal damaged a light post at a home in the 600 block of Spring Street. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925.

6 p.m. Monday — A women's bracelet was found on Wise Road in Summit Township. The owner can claim it by calling police at 724-284-8100.3:18 a.m. Monday — Janel D. Hein, 33, of Lyndora was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Henricks Road near Route 38 in Summit Township.July 12 — Colton T. Mawhinney, 20, was arraigned on charges he stole a purse belonging to a women who was visiting his Gram Terrace home March 7 in Muddy Creek Township. The purse contained the owner's personal items as well credit cards, checks and $200 in currency.Mawhinney, who is charged with felony counts of theft and receiving stolen property, is free on his own recognizance.

July 29 — Police charged Melanie R. Galzerano, 35, of Ford City with driving under the influence after she drove to the Kittanning barracks about 3:50 a.m. June 26 to pick up a man who had been arrested for DUI earlier that same evening.In addition to DUI, Galzerano is charged with careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

July 28 — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited Smokey Bones Bar and Fire Grill on Route 228 in Cranberry Township for allegedly serving alcohol to a minor on June 21. An administrative law judge will hear the case.
