Butler PoliceMonday — Police charged Scott W. Braden Jr., 34, of Butler with swiping a man’s wallet in May and using a bank card to fraudulently buy $500 in gift cards at three city stores.The victim, Jonathan Barger, told police that Braden was visiting his apartment on Fairview Avenue May 13 when Braden took the wallet. The suspect later took a band card in the wallet to buy a $200 gift card at the Kmart at Pullman Square, a $100 gift card at the Rite Aid on South Main Street and a $100 gift card at the Dollar General on North Main Street.Braden, who is in Butler County Prison on other unrelated charges, is charged in the case with three counts of access device fraud and one count each of theft and receiving stolen property.8:50 p.m. Sunday — David J. Hudak, 45, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his girlfriend, Jill Kennedy, during a domestic dispute at his apartment on the 100 block of West Brady Street.Hudak is accused of pushing Kennedy to the floor several times, throwing a glass table at her and punching her in the back. She suffered bruising to her left arm and both wrists.The defendant was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.1:54 p.m. Saturday — Priscilla E. Folks, 65, of Butler was caught at Friedman’s supermarket on West Brady Street where she had been previously barred. Police charged Folks with defiant trespass.8 p.m. Friday — Jedediah L. Owens-Vickers, 24, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend during a domestic dispute on the 500 block of Virginia Avenue.Police were called for a woman screaming for help and found the alleged victim, Jennifer Blystone. She told police that Owens-Vickers punched and kicked her in face and head, pulled her hair and choked her, according to court documents.Blystone, who suffered minor injuries, also accused the defendant of pouring bleach on her clothes at her home and throwing them out of the window. Additionally, documents said, he flushed her dentures down the toilet.Replacement cost for the dentures was estimated at $600. Damage to the clothing was estimated at $350.During the suspected altercation, Owens-Vickers threatened Blystone, documents said, warning her that if she called police he would “finish (her) off.”Owens-Vickers was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats and criminal mischief. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following arraignment.Wednesday — Police charged Brandon S. Smith, 28, of Lyndora and Brandy L. Lane, 29, of Jefferson Township in connection with a shoplifting incident Oct. 14 at the Dollar General store on North Main Street.Smith is accused of stealing three packs of boxer shorts, valued at $15,20, while Lane acted as the lookout in the men’s clothing aisle, according to court documents.The suspects left the store and a good Samaritan chased after them. But the man who tried to help ended up falling and injuring both hands, documents said. He also broke his $80 cell phone in the fall. Police described his injuries as minor.Investigators used store surveillance video to help identify the defendants.Smith, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, is charged with felony counts of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft. Lane, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and conspiracy to commit retail theft.
Butler Township Police7:23 p.m. Friday — Vernon L. Boozer, 38, of Butler allegedly gave a bogus name after police got a disturbance call at the Old Plank Estates apartment complex. He is charged with false identification to law enforcement authorities and public drunkenness.
Slippery Rock University PoliceOct. 24 — Chelynn I. Dunson, 18, of Monroeville, Allegheny County was charged with driving under the influence after police found her vehicle Oct. 23 stopped in the middle of Service Drive and Kiester Road.Police said when they approached the car they smelled a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from Dunson, according to court documents. She denied drinking.She eventually was taken to the police station for a breath test after failing field sobriety tests. The test showed her blood-alcohol was 0.041 percent. In Pennsylvania, the legal limit for someone under 21 is 0.02 percent.Dunson is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking, minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system and driving without a license.Oct. 24 — Police charged Julia A Frye, 22, of Knox, Clarion County, with drunken driving stemming from an Oct. 22 traffic stop at the parking lot of South Rock Apartments on Kiester Road.Frye, who smelled of alcohol, admitted that she had been drinking earlier, court documents said. She was arrested after failing field sobriety tests.A breath test later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.088 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to DUI, Frye is charged with driving without headlights.
State Police, Butler12:11 a.m. today — Stacy L. Bell, 44, of Butler was arrested for suspected drugged driving after police found her passed out in the driver’s seat of a still running car stopped at a closed gas station in Franklin Township.Inside Bell’s car, which was over the curb on mulch in the parking lot of the Sunoco on North Road at Route 422, police said they noticed a small, half empty bottle of raspberry vodka on the floor behind the driver’s seat.On the front passenger seat was a small, empty bottle of raspberry vodka and a half empty cup of vodka in the driver’s seat cup holder.“Bell was highly impaired with alcohol and she admitted to taking (two to three) Xanax (pills),” according to a police report. Xanax is a prescription drug commonly used to treat anxiety disorders.Police took her to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Later, she was placed in Butler County Prison to await arraignment on charges of driving under the influence.10:18 p.m. Sunday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Levi D. McWilliams, 22, of Slippery Rock struck a deer on Route 8 in Penn Township.3:30 a.m. Sunday — A 24-year-old man suffered a cut to his head when he was hit by a beer bottle during a large party at the The Grove apartment complex on Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township.Police are seeking the unknown suspect who threw the bottle into the crowd of about 1,000 people. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.Oct. 24 — Barry J. Murray, 22, of Butler was charged with breaking into a woman’s Slippery Rock Township apartment in September. He is accused of kicking in the door at the home early in the morning Sept. 25.The victim told police that she knew Murray from high school, according to court documents. She said he told her that he was looking for two other individuals who owed him drug money. He later realized, documents said, that he had targeted the wrong apartment.Murray is charged with burglary, trespass, criminal mischief and disorderly conduct.Oct. 24 — Police charged Taylor Brooke Laure, 18, of Monaca, Beaver County, with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month on Interstate 79 in Worth Township.Police stopped Laure’s southbound car about 11:10 p.m. Sept. 1 traveling 20 mph under the posted speed limit in the fast lane, court documents said. The car was weaving in the lane and also crossed over the center line numerous times.A breath test later showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.097 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Laure is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking, two lane violations, driving too slow for conditions and careless driving.
State Police, Mercer10:38 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Felicia J. Stover, 33, of Knox traveled into a ditch, crashed into a tree and rolled onto its roof along Brent Road just west of Mercer Butler Pike in Liberty Township, Mercer County.Stover, who was wearing a seat belt, was not hurt but her car had to be towed. Police cited her for disregarding traffic lanes.
