Miller Minutes: Weekend Events

If you’re a musical fan such as myself, you probably noticed that tickets for some summer shows were announced this week.

In the meantime, Butler County has a few events that may excite and enthrall just as much.

This Sunday, the Butler County Symphony Orchestra and Musical Theatre Guild are presenting “Guys and Dolls” at the Butler Intermediate High School, 551 Fairground Hill Road. The collaboration is a first for the arts entities, and will feature old New York gangsters and classic Golden Age music. The show begins at 3 p.m. Tickets are available on the symphony’s website or at the door.

The Slippery Rock University senior art students will showcase their works at the Butler Art Center beginning Friday. The show runs through April 22 and is free to the public. A reception will be held at the center from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m. April 14.

Butler County Parks and Recreation is holding its Flashlight Easter Egg Hunt from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at Alameda Park. Snacks, crafts and a chance to meet the Easter Bunny will all happen at the Masonic shelter. Registration is $9.

The Butler County Home Show will offer three days of advice on landscaping and home improvement, among many other topics. Admission is free to the Family Sports Center, 542 Evans City Road, and the show runs from 3 to 8 p.m. Friday, 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. Saturday and 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday.

On Saturday, participating businesses in Harmony will hold an Egg Scavenger Hunt. Scavenger hunt lists can be found at Harmonie Laden shop, 229 Mercer St.

The Spring Pinball Tournament at Tokens Arcade, 18 Chesapeake St., will begin at 2 p.m. Sunday. Contestants can arrive an hour before to warm up. Tickets in advance cost $10, and tickets at the door will cost $15.

Cranberry Township’s Hippity Hoppity Egg Hunt will take place at the municipal building, 2525 Rochester Road, from 10:30 a.m. to noon Sunday. Children should take a basket and camera for pictures with the Easter Bunny. Preregistration is required at https://bit.ly/3ijA6G7. Tickets are $12 for Cranberry residents and $15 for non-residents.
