PennDOT reminds property owners to obtain highway occupancy permits

For property owners who are looking to make home improvement projects which involve a driveway which connects to a state highway, the Pennsylvania Department of Transportation reminds you to first obtain a Highway Occupancy Permit.

These are required by the State Highway Law, Section 420 of Title 36.

Permit applications can be found online at www.penndot.pa.gov, mousing over the Doing Business section, and clicking “Permits.” Paper applications can be found at PennDOT district offices. Completed applications can be sent to the district office for review.

Applications should be filed at least 30 days before the start of the planned project. The application fee is $25, while the fine for performing a driveway-to-highway project without a permit is $100 plus court costs.
