Dec. 4 — Vernon L. Wise IV, 32, of Butler, was charged with a second-offense DUI, stemming from a Dec. 3 traffic stop on Route 228 in Adams Township.Police said they stopped the vehicle for drifting in its lane and disobeying a left-turn only lane by driving straight. Police said they smelled alcohol in the vehicle, and field sobriety tests showed Wise was impaired.Police said Wise tried four times to provide a breath sample, but was unable to complete it. Police said Wise refused further testing, and officers were unable to receive an adequate test.
Dec. 6 — Steven J. Smith, 46, of Butler, was charged with a first-offense DUI following a two-vehicle crash Oct. 17 at the intersection of Whitestown Road and Pierce Avenue in Butler Township.Police said Smith admitted the crash was his fault and told officers he was drinking. Police said field sobriety tests showed Smith was impaired.Police said a later blood tests showed Smith's blood-alcohol content was higher than .300%, nearly four times the .08% legal limit.Dec. 4 — Codey L. Davidson, 32, of Butler, was charged with misdemeanor simple assault, drug and paraphernalia possession, related to a domestic incident at the Super 8 Hotel in Butler Township.Police said they spoke with Davidson's girlfriend, who accused him of pulling her by the hair, restraining her and hitting her with a tire iron. Police said the girlfriend was bleeding and bruised.Police said during Davidson's arrest, they found suspected crystal meth, another plastic bag of white residue and a plastic pipe.
Dec. 3 — Laura J. Broadbent, 59, of Wexford, was charged with a third-offense DUI, a felony, stemming from a Dec. 3 traffic stop on Rochester Road in Cranberry Township.Police said they stopped the vehicle for failing to stop at a traffic light, among other violations. Police said they saw an open beer container in the center console. Police said Broadbent's license had expired and was DUI suspended.Police said field sobriety tests showed Broadbent was impaired. Police said a later blood test showed Broadbent's blood-alcohol content at .161%. In Pennsylvania a level of .08% is considered intoxicated.State Police, Butler12:11 p.m. Dec. 6 — Police responded to a one-vehicle crash on Interstate 79, Muddy Creek Township.Police said Alex L. Young, 23, of New Castle, attempted to pass a truck, lost control of his vehicle and hit an embankment, causing the vehicle to roll over.Police said Young was uninjured, but he was cited for speeding.Dec. 6 — Christopher Karenbauer, 20, of Butler, was charged with a first-offense DUI, stemming from a Nov. 28 traffic stop on Route 422 near Bish Road in Summit Township.Police said they stopped the vehicle because a registration check showed the owner's license as DUI suspended. Police said they smelled marijuana in the vehicle, and Karenbauer handed officers a bag containing marijuana.Police said field sobriety tests showed he was impaired, but Karenbauer later refused to have his blood tested.7:12 p.m. Dec. 5 — Police responded to a one-vehicle crash involving multiple teens on Beulah Road south of Kelly Road in Oakland Township.Police said a Butler male, 17, swerved to avoid a deer and drove into a grass field, lost control and hit several trees in a wooded area adjacent to the field.Police said two girls, ages 16 and 17, and another boy, 16, were passengers in the vehicle. All of the vehicle's occupants were treated at the scene, mostly for suspected minor injuries, and all refused transport for further treatment.The driver was cited for speeding.5:27 p.m. Dec. 5 — Police responded to a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Herman Road at Bonniebrook Road in Summit Township.Police said both drivers had stopped at their respective stop signs, and both entered the intersection. Police said a vehicle driven by Sue A. Lemasters, 65, of Butler, entered the intersection first, and before it could proceed through it, a vehicle driven by Cynthia A. Elllison, 63, of Chicora, hit its passenger side.Police said both vehicles were drivable, but both Lemasters and her passenger were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for suspected minor injuries. Ellison was uninjured, and was cited for failing to stop at a stop sign.10:07 a.m. Nov. 29 — Police began investigating identity theft against a Portersville woman, 63.Police said the woman's identity was used to apply for different credit cards, and the thief also tried to reroute packages sent to her home address.Anyone with information is asked to call the barracks at 724-284-8100.
