Dec. 23 — Police charged a Beaver County man with having heroin and other drug contraband stemming from an investigation in October on the 300 block of Fairview Avenue that ended in a traffic stop at East Brady and North Elm streets.The defendant, Steven F. Shoop, 35, of Rochester, was a passenger in a vehicle that was pulled over shortly after 10:10 p.m. Oct. 17. Police subsequently searched Shoop and found him with 10 bags of suspected heroin and a syringe, according to court documents.He is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
1:35 a.m. Sunday — Erica L. Rupert, 41, was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her husband during a domestic dispute at their home on Longbow Lane.The victim told police that Rupert struck him multiple times in the head, chest and groin areas, according to court documents. The suspected assault caused two “large cuts” to the right side of his head, police said, which were bleeding and stained his shirt.The defendant admitted to striking and injuring her husband, documents said.District Judge Bill O'Donnell arraigned Rupert on charges of simple assault and harassment. She is free on $10,000 unsecured bail.
2:45 p.m. Tuesday — No one was injured in a two-vehicle collision at Route 68 and Meridian Road. Police said the crash happened when Pamela S. Farnworth, 32, of Butler, ran a red light in front of a car driven by Amy Perschke, 34, of Renfrew. Farnworth was cited for failing to stop at a red light.11:36 a.m. Dec. 30 — A vehicle driven by James B. Saylor, 75, of Butler, struck another vehicle at Moraine Pointe Plaza. Tammy Serafine, 62, of Chicora, was the other driver. No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Saylor for a stop sign violation.5:45 a.m. Dec. 29 — No one was injured when a Vogel garbage truck, driven by Joshua Smith, 30, of Herman, caught fire while traveling on Route 68 near the Butler Army Reserve Center. Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3 and the Butler Veterans Affairs Fire Department extinguished the fire and assisted in traffic control.Dec. 28 — Matthew G. Williams, 43, of Summit Township, was charged with reckless endangerment and obstructing the administration of law or other government function stemming from an incident earlier in the month at the Days Inn motel on Route 8 south.Motel officials called authorities about 1:15 p.m. Dec. 7 to report a semiconscious man and woman in one of the rooms. Police got there and found Williams and a woman, whom he identified as his wife, on the bed. The woman was unresponsive. Williams was alert, but he would not respond to officers' questions.Butler Ambulance Service and the Butler Fire Department also were called and assisted. Police and paramedics told Williams “numerous times to move out of the way” so the woman could be evaluated, according to court documents, but he “just stared at officers,” and kept his hands under the blankets.Police eventually grabbed hold of the defendant's hands and deployed a Taser before they were able to move him out of the way.The woman and Williams were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.3:33 p.m. Dec. 26 — A car driven by Debbie L. Goldinger, 58, of Butler, struck another vehicle at Whitestown and Meridian roads. Joseph Gigliotti, 37, of Saxonburg, was the other driver. No one was injured, but Gigliotti's vehicle had to be towed.Police cited Goldinger for failing to stop at a red light.11:11 a.m. Dec. 26 — Michael Gurney, 29, of Butler, lost control of his vehicle and crashed on Route 422. The vehicle ended up on its side. Neither Gurney nor his passengers were injured, but his car had to be towed.6:43 p.m. Dec. 24 — Zackary Budner, 20, of Cabot, suffered an apparent shoulder injury in a two-vehicle, hit-and-run crash at Morton and Center avenues. Police said the unknown driver of the other vehicle did not stop and was last seen traveling west on Morton Avenue.A police report noted that officers recovered a fog light from the unidentified vehicle. Anyone with information on the incident is asked to all police at 724-285-9600.1:41 p.m. Dec. 24 — Sherburne R. Vantassel, 41, of Evans City, was injured when the car he was driving rear-ended another car on New Castle Road at Route 68. Vantassel suffered a minor injury, but refused medical treatment. James Baker, 41, the other driver, was not injured.Both cars had to be towed. Police cited Vantassel for careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.11:08 p.m. Dec. 22 — James F. Vilone, 35, of Lyndora, lost control of his car and struck another vehicle on Route 8 south. The other driver, Rebecca Guzman, 36, of Butler, suffered a minor head injury. Both vehicles had to be towed. Vilone was cited for driving too fast for conditions.
11:01 a.m. Monday — One person was hurt in a two-vehicle wreck on Interstate 79 in Cranberry Township. The crash happened when a car driven by Richard R. Hirsh, 68, of Pittsburgh, rear-ended a Mack truck driven by John N. Heyl, 57, of ValenciaHirsh was taken to UPMC Passavant-Cranberry with unknown injuries. Heyl was not injured. The car had to be towed. Police cited Hirsh for disobeying traffic control devices.4:27 p.m. Sunday — Lindsay A. Faulx, 29, of Cabot, lost control of her car and struck a utility pole along Winfield Road in Winfield Township. No one was injured. Faulx was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.12:50 p.m. Dec. 23 — Chet A. Leech, 48, of Butler, was injured in a two-vehicle crash in Venango Township. The collision happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by Jessica L. Zakrie, 45, of Parker, turned in front of the pickup that Leech was driving. The truck then continued into a utility pole.Leech was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police cited Zakrie for making an improper left turn.
5:47 p.m. Saturday — A pickup driven by Joshua S. Lewis, 31, of Fenelton, struck a minivan on Franklin Hill Road in East Franklin Township. Ashley N. King, 28, of Rural Valley, was the other driver. No one was injured, but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Lewis for disregarding traffic lanes and not wearing a seat belt.
