7:44 p.m. Thursday — Kathleen M. Fleming, 45, of Butler was arrested after she allegedly choked and assaulted her daughter during a domestic dispute at her home on Donaghy Avenue.
The victim told police that she and Fleming got into an argument, and the defendant punched and slapped her and pulled her hair, according to court documents. She said she tried to defend herself, but Fleming took her to the ground and began strangling her. She eventually got away and went to a neighbor’s house for help.
Police said the victim had a cut on her lip, a scrape on the chin and a scratch on the side of her neck.
Fleming was arraigned on a felony charge of strangulation and a misdemeanor charge of simple assault. She later was released on nonmonetary bond.
[naviga:h3]Butler Township Police[/naviga:h3]
Friday — Police charged an Indiana County man with being more than three-and-a-half times the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a one-vehicle crash last month in Lyndora.
The defendant, Mark J. McManus, 62, of Indiana, Pa., crashed his pickup truck over an embankment about 7:25 p.m. Feb. 16 on the 200 block of Bessemer Avenue. The pickup rolled onto its side, according to a police report, trapping McManus inside.
Volunteer firefighters had to extricate him from the truck. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital to be checked out but he did not complain of any injuries, police said. A blood test later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.292 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.
He is charged with driving under the influence, driving with an open container of alcohol, driving too fast for conditions and driving a vehicle without insurance.
10:19 p.m. Friday — Jeffrey W. Hall, 52, was arrested on charges he assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute at his Old Plank Road apartment. He is accused of grabbing the victim by the hair and hitting her on the head.
Police allege Hall also threatened to kill the victim by slicing her throat, according to court documents. The woman suffered a large bump and bruising on the forehead.
Hall was arraigned on charges of terroristic threats, simple assault and harassment. He was released on nonmonetary bond following arraignment.
8:01 p.m. Thursday — Maria N. Young, 25, of Butler allegedly took an entire prescription of medication from a home on Arlington Avenue. Police said that she was later found and had the prescription on her.
Young is charged with theft and possession of a controlled substance.
4:29 p.m. Thursday — Christian M. Mato, 28, of Butler was allegedly found with marijuana and other contraband following a traffic stop for speeding on Route 422. He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and speeding.
11:47 a.m. Thursday — No injuries were reported in a three-vehicle crash on Route 8 south at Litman Road that police blamed on distracted driving. The wreck happened when a vehicle driven by Robert McNeish, 52, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle driven by Emily Stefaniak, 42, of Sarver.
Following that collision, police said, McNeish’s vehicle struck a vehicle driven by Albert Helsel, 81, of Saxonburg. The vehicles driven by McNeish and Stefaniak had to be towed.
Police said they believe McNeish was distracted while driving and he did not see the other vehicles stopped for traffic. He was cited for driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]
March 2 — Gregory P. Heath, 55, of Butler was charged with being more than twice the state’s legal limit for alcohol and under the influence of drugs stemming from a January traffic stop in Butler. Police said he was pulled over about 2 a.m. Jan. 28 at West Quarry and Liberty streets.
Heath subsequently was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.166 percent, according to court documents. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated. He also had marijuana, cocaine and hydrocodone in his system, police said.
He is charged with multiple counts of driving under the influence of a controlled substance, DUI, careless driving and driving with a faulty license plate light.
[naviga:h3]State Police, New Castle[/naviga:h3]
9:04 p.m. Thursday — One person was hurt in a single-vehicle crash in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. William J. Hedglin, 52, of New Castle was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence.
Police said Hedglin lost control of his sport utility vehicle on Frew Mill Road and struck multiple mailboxes. He was taken to Jameson Hospital in New Castle for a blood draw. Charges are pending lab results.
