POLICE REPORTS
2:34 p.m. Monday — Melissa M. Cammisa, 34, was arrested after a state parole officer allegedly found her with suspected crack cocaine and a syringe at her apartment on the 500 block of West Cunningham Street.
Cammisa was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.
1:40 a.m. July 27 — Dean R. Weiland, 65, of Butler was allegedly more than twice the state's legal limit for alcohol following a traffic stop in the area of South Chestnut Street. Police said they pulled him over after he drove his car onto the curb multiple times and nearly struck a utility pole.
Weiland admitted to having about six beers earlier that night, according to court documents, and he subsequently failed field sobriety testing. A breath test later allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.170 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.
In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with disregarding traffic lanes.
6:44 p.m. July 25 — Russell L. Little, 54, of Butler was allegedly stopped driving while under suspension on Fairground Hill Road.Little is charged with driving with a suspended license-DUI related, a misdemeanor, and driving without a license, a summary offense.
Monday — David P. Brickley Jr., 57, of Zelienople was charged with drunken driving stemming from a July incident at Moraine State Park in Muddy Creek Township.Brickley was in the park near the Pleasant Valley picnic area around 6:55 p.m. July 11 when he stopped an officer for the Pennsylvania Department of Conservation and Natural Resources to ask a question. The officer noticed the inspection sticker on his van was expired.The defendant allegedly showed signs of impairment, according to court documents, and he failed field sobriety testing. He was taken to the state police barracks in Butler Township for a breath test that allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.116 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.He is charged with driving under the influence and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.
Wednesday — Police reported they are investigating a case of identity theft that victimized an 85-year-old Clay Township woman.The suspected thief called the woman earlier this year and apparently obtained her personal information to fraudulently open a credit card account. Several unauthorized charges were subsequently made on that account.The investigation, police said, is ongoing.Monday — Power tools worth a combined $4,600 were stolen from an oil pad site on Golden City Road in Jefferson Township. The theft occurred between 8 a.m. July 27 and 8:30 a.m. Monday.Some of the tools included a pipe threader, cold cutters, a DeWalt impact gun and a Bosch transit. Newpark Mats & Integrated Services of Carencro, La., owns the stolen property.July 22 — Jason D. McCandless, 44, of Center Township was arraigned on drunken driving charges stemming from a June traffic stop in Center Township. He was stopped around 7:50 p.m. June 10 after making a wide turn and crossing the yellow line on North Benbrook Road.Police said they first spotted his sport utility vehicle without its headlights on. He denied drinking alcohol, according to court documents, but he subsequently failed field sobriety tests.McCandless was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. A breath test allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.186 percent, which is more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.He was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to use turn signals, careless driving and a lighting violation. He was released on non-monetary bail.July 8 — Police charged Shyla M. Rhodes, 23, of Grove City with drugged driving in connection with a June traffic stop on Prospect Road near Staff Road in Brady Township. She was pulled over around 10:40 a.m. June 1 after crossing over the yellow center line and white fog line.Police said she admitted using marijuana the prior evening, according to court documents, and a search of her sport utility vehicle turned up two marijuana vape pens containing suspected THC oil.She indicated impairment during field sobriety testing, police said, and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results allegedly showed she had marijuana in her system.Rhodes is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to keep right and careless driving.July 8 — Lucas P. Laughner, 18, of Jefferson Township was charged with drugged driving stemming from a May traffic stop in Jefferson Township. Police said they stopped him on Butler Road near Aderhold Road because his license plate lights were not working.Laughner admitted to having smoked marijuana earlier that day, according to court documents. He was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which confirmed he had marijuana in his system.He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, careless driving and a lighting violation.
