12:17 a.m. May 4 — Gino A. Cioppa, 19, of New Castle was arrested for driving under the influence after police said he ran a red light at South Main and Cooper streets.
Cioppa showed impairment during field sobriety testing, according to court documents. A subsequent breath test allegedly indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.152 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
He is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking, minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system and a red light violation.
May 21 — Police charged Larry J. Turner, 66, of Allegheny Township with driving under the influence of drugs stemming from a one-vehicle wreck in April in Oakland Township. He lost control of his car around 11:30 p.m. April 7, police said, and struck a guardrail on Route 38.During their investigation, police found Turner with unmarked pill bottles containing pills believed to be oxycodone, diazepam and hydrocodone, according to court documents.He was taken to the barracks for an evaluation by a certified drug recognition expert and then taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. He tested positive for unspecified prescription medication, documents said.Turner is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.May 20 — Nicholas J. Ray, 20, of Center Township was arrested on charges that he forged and cashed a relative’s check for $150.The victim notified authorities after he found the check had been cashed May 9 without his knowledge, according to court documents. Police interviewed Ray at the barracks May 16.Ray was arraigned on a felony charge of forgery and a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception. He is free on his own recognizance.May 7 — Travis W. Halahurich, 27, of Cabot was charged with being almost three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol in connection with a one-vehicle crash in Winfield Township.Police said they were called around 9:35 a.m. May 3 for the wreck in the 300 block of Winfield Township, and found an ambulance crew treating Halahurich for head injuries. The car he had been driving was in a field about 150 feet off the road.He admitted that he had been drinking alcohol that morning and was “driving to the store to purchase more alcohol,” according to court documents. He was arrested and taken for a breath test, which allegedly showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.234 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.Halahurich is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.May 7 — Laura L. Sanders, 38, of Kittanning was charged with drunken driving stemming from a March traffic stop in Buffalo Township. She was pulled over around 12:50 a.m. March 23 on Route 356 for not having her headlights on.Sanders told police that she was coming from a concert in Pittsburgh and that she had a few beers earlier, according to court documents. She allegedly failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test, which indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.145 percent.She is charged with DUI, careless driving and a lighting violation.12:12 a.m. May 5 — A Beaver County man was arrested for DUI after his pickup truck traveled off a road in Portersville. Jeffrey A. Grinnell, 52, of Fombell told police that he had fallen asleep while driving home.Grinnell said he was coming from Crawford County, where he had consumed alcohol, according to court documents. He allegedly failed field sobriety testing and was taken for a breath tests, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.146 percent.He is charged with DUI, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
