POLICE REPORTS
3:44 p.m. May 27 — Surenu E. Frank, 34, was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend at her home on the 400 block of Negley Avenue.
Police said when they got to the home, they found the couple arguing over the custody of their child, according to court documents. The alleged victim told officers that Frank struck him with a key, causing a small cut on his left forearm and left upper arm.
The defendant was taken to the station where police found her with a marijuana grinder and a container with suspected marijuana roaches.
Frank was arraigned on charges of simple assault and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was released on $5,000 unsecured bail.
7:27 p.m. Thursday — Two people were hurt when a sport utility vehicle driven by Heather Karenbauer, 45, of Butler rear-ended another SUV at the Route 422 east on-ramp at New Castle Road. The other driver, Samuel Heins Jr., 46, of Boyers, and one of his passengers were taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Police cited Karenbauer for careless driving.
Tuesday — Police charged an Allegheny County man with having a firearm about 10 a.m. May 12 at Route 68 and Buhl Road in Forward Township.Scott D. McNally, 49, of McKees Rocks is charged with possessing a firearm without a carry license, driving an unregistered vehicle and driving without a license.May 13 — Charles J. Diller, 58, of Buffalo Township was charged with being nearly three times the state's legal limit for alcohol stemming from an April traffic stop on Bear Creek Road.Police said they stopped him about 5:20 p.m. April 21 after his car crossed the double yellow line on South Pike Road.Diller showed impairment during filed sobriety tests, documents show. Police took him to Allegheny Valley Hospital in Natrona Heights, Allegheny County, for a blood test.Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.231 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.In addition to driving under the influence, Diller is charged with disregarding traffic lanes.
May 7 — Chase W. Slepak, 28, of Sarver was charged with driving under the influence stemming from an April traffic stop at Fisher Road and Constitution Avenue. Police said he was pulled over about 11 p.m. April 26 for a stop sign violation.Slepak showed impaired during field sobriety, according to court documents. Police said he was taken to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test.Toxicology results indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.154 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Slepak is charged with DUI and disobeying traffic control devices.
9 p.m. May 7 — Florence E. Dinger, 60, of Slippery Rock was arrested for felony shoplifting after she was caught allegedly taking $119.91 in merchandise at the Giant Eagle store at Slippery Rock Plaza.Dinger, who has two prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned a felony count of retail theft. She is free on $2,500 bail.12:17 a.m. May 4 — Gino A. Cioppa, 19, of New Castle was arrested for driving under the influence after police say he ran a red light at South Main and Cooper streets.Cioppa showed impairment during field sobriety testing, according to court documents. A subsequent breath test indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.152 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.He is charged with driving under the influence, DUI by a minor, underage drinking, minors prohibited from driving without any alcohol in their system and a red light violation.
May 21 — Police charged Larry J. Turner, 66, of Allegheny Township with driving on drugs stemming from a one-vehicle wreck in April in Oakland Township. He lost control of his car about 11:30 p.m. April 7, police said, and struck a guardrail on Route 38.During their investigation, police found Turner with unmarked pill bottles containing pills believe to be oxycodone, diazepam and hydrocodone, according to court documents.He was taken to the barracks for an evaluation by a certified drug recognition expert and then taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. He tested positive for unspecified prescription medication, documents said.Turner is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of a controlled substance, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.May 20 — Nicholas J. Ray, 20, of Center Township was arrested on charges he forged and cashed a relative’s check for $150.The victim notified authorities after he found the check had been cashed May 9 without his knowledge, according to court documents. Police interviewed Ray at the barracks May 16.Ray was arraigned on a felony charge of forgery and a misdemeanor charge of theft by deception. He is free on his own recognizance.May 7 — Travis W. Halahurich, 27, of Cabot was charged with being almost three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol in connection with an earlier one-vehicle crash in Winfield Township.Police said they were called about 9:35 a.m. May 3 for the wreck on the 300 block of Winfield Township, and found an ambulance crew treating Halahurich for head injuries. The car he had been driving was in a field about 150 feet off the road.He admitted that he had been drinking alcohol that morning and was “driving to the store to purchase more alcohol,” according to court documents. He was arrested and taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.234 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.Halahurich is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.May 7 — Laura L. Sanders, 38, of Kittanning was charged with drunken driving stemming from a March traffic stop in Buffalo Township. She was pulled over about 12:50 a.m. March 23 on Route 356 for not having her headlights on.Sanders told police that she was coming from a concert in Pittsburgh and that she earlier had a few beers, according to court documents. She failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test that indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.145 percent.She is charged with DUI, careless driving and a lighting violation.12:12 a.m. May 5 — A Beaver County man was arrested for DUI after his pickup truck traveled off a road in Portersville. Jeffrey A. Grinnell, 52, of Fombell told police that he had fallen asleep while driving home.Grinnell said he was coming from Crawford County where he had consumed alcohol, according to court documents. He failed field sobriety testing and was taken for a breath tests that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.146 percent.He is charged with DUI, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.
