Butler Police11:25 p.m. Thursday — John J. Jackson, 42, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute at his apartment in the 300 block of West Jefferson StreetThe victim told police that Jackson pushed her head into a wall and choked her while she on a couch, according to court documents. Police said the woman had a cut above her right eye and redness and a bruise on the left side of her neck.Officers took Jackson to the police station where he became “agitated,” documents said, and he started swinging arms. He also began struggling with officers as they tried to get hold of him.Jackson was arraigned on charges of simple assault and resisting arrest. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,500 bail.Slippery Rock University Police10:30 a.m. April 16 — Samuel T. Whalen, 22, of Saxonburg allegedly took $36 in currency from a wallet at Bailey Library on the Slippery Rock University campus.The victim told police that she had momentarily left her belongings on a table. When she returned, according to court documents, she confronted the defendant, asking, “Are you stealing my money?”Police said they reviewed security video that showed Whalen removing currency from the victim’s wallet. He is charged with theft and receiving stolen property.

State Police, ButlerApril 29 — Paula L. Lassinger, 45, of Slippery Rock was charged with being more than two and a half times the state’s legal limit for alcohol stemming from a March traffic stop in Brady Township. She was stopped about 2:40 a.m. March 23 for having a faulty license plate light.Lassinger admitted to drinking beer and she failed field sobriety tests. Police took her to the barracks for a breath test that indicated her blood-alcohol level was 0.221 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.She is charged with driving under the influence, a lighting violation, driving a vehicle without valid inspection and careless driving.April 29 — Police charged Nicholas E. Abbott, 48, of Slippery Rock with driving on drugs and alcohol in connection with a traffic stop in March in Slippery Rock Township. He was pulled over about 12:10 p.m. March 13 after a trooper initially noticed that he failed to come to a complete stop at Harmony and Kiester roads.Abbott told police that he had not consumed alcohol since the prior night, according to court documents He also denied having smoked marijuana. But he showed impairment during field sobriety tests.Police took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that indicated he had marijuana in his system. Additionally, his blood-alcohol level was 0.030 percent.Abbott is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, DUI, driving under the influence of a combination of alcohol and drugs, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, a stop sign violation, careless driving and failing to notify authorities of a change of address.April 29 — Joshua T. Leonard, 28, of Portersville was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last year in Franklin Township. Police said he was stopped about 7:10 p.m. Dec. 10 for crossing over the white fog line numerous times on Route 422.He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the barracks where a court-certified drug recognition expert determined he was under the influence of drugs.Police took Leonard to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test that showed he had marijuana in his system. In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, he is charged with disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and reckless driving.April 26 — Benjamin E. Nowicki, 23, of Jefferson Township was arrested for an alleged illegal attempted gun buy last year at a Clearview Mall store in Center Township.Nowicki is accused of providing false information on a background check form that was required Oct. 12 when he attempted to buy a firearm at Rural King, according to court documents.Police said that when his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, he was denied the purchase.He was arraigned on a felony charge of unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm and a misdemeanor charge of unsworn falsification to authorities, and released on his own recognizance.

State Police, MercerFriday — An unknown burglar made off with currency and miscellaneous paperwork from a 59-year-old woman’s home on East Gait Drive in Liberty Township.8:06 a.m. Thursday — Gabriel J. Nuss, 23, of Grove City lost control of his car and struck a concrete barrier on Route 173 in Worth Township. The car spun around at least twice and ended in a ditch.Police said Nuss was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.
