2:29 p.m. Sunday — Thomas S. Smith, 45, of Butler Township was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his estranged wife at her home on the 200 block of North Duffy Street.

The victim told police that Smith pushed her onto the floor, causing her to hit a small table, according to court documents. She complained of pain in her right hip, shoulder, leg and foot.

District Judge Lewis Stoughton arraigned the defendant on charges of simple assault and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

4:44 p.m. Friday — Two people were hurt in a three-vehicle wreck at Route 8 and Vogel Road. Police said the crash occurred when Louise A. Morrell, 57, of Butler did not stop at a red light and hit a turning vehicle driven by Jacob Gombos, 27, of Cabot.

Following impact, according to a police report, Morrell’s vehicle collided with a vehicle driven by Charles Klingensmith, 38, of Butler. Morrell and Klingensmith were both taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with unknown injuries. Police said Morrell was cited for a red light violation and careless driving.

April 8 — Sarah R. Bartley, 20, of Butler Township was charged with drugged driving in connection with an incident last month in Penn Township. Police said an officer on patrol came upon her around 9:20 p.m. March 11 at the Succop Nature Park on West Airport Road.

Bartley was in the driver’s seat of a sport utility vehicle in the park after hours, according to court documents. There were three passengers in the SUV. The officer noted that the passenger compartment was full of suspected marijuana smoke.

Police said Bartley turned over a baggie of suspected marijuana. A search of the vehicle turned up several more baggies of suspected marijuana and a marijuana grinder.

In a purse that the defendant admitted was hers, documents said, the officer found four baggies containing suspected marijuana flakes and a plastic container with what appeared to be marijuana.

Police took Bartley to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results later allegedly confirmed she had marijuana in her system.

She is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia and disorderly conduct.

7:29 a.m. Sunday — Collin R. Walker, 21, of Butler was hurt when he lost control of his car, struck an embankment and overturned on Route 528 just north of McIntire Lane in Franklin Township.

Police said Walker, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a suspected minor injury. His car had to be towed.

He was cited for disregarding traffic lanes. Prospect volunteer firefighters and a Moraine State Park ranger assisted at the scene.

4:32 p.m. Friday — A car driven by a 17-year-old Slippery Rock boy struck a utility pole along West Liberty Street just west of Muddy Creek Drive in Brady Township.

The boy, who police did not identify, was not injured, but his car had to be towed.

11:26 a.m. Friday — No one was injured when an Ohio man lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Erik J. Knotts, 20, of Willoughby was cited for driving at an unsafe speed.

Police said the car had to be towed. Harmony EMS and the Harmony Fire District assisted.

1:11 a.m. Friday — An unknown man drove off in a suspected hit-and-run crash on I-79 in Cranberry Township. Police said he was traveling north in the right lane and attempted to pass a vehicle on the east berm between that vehicle and the guardrail.

The suspect’s car struck the other vehicle, which was driven by Daniel A. Sasso, 33, of Frewsburg, N.Y. Both drivers stopped and got out of their vehicles. But the suspect, who reportedly smelled of alcohol, got back into his car and drove away, according to a police report.

The suspect’s car is described as a red sedan with a bike rack on it.

9:55 p.m. Thursday — A 17-year-old boy, who police did not identify, lost control of the pickup truck he was driving and spun out, hitting a guardrail on Route 228 just east of Spring Valley Road in Clinton Township. The truck rolled onto its driver’s side.

The boy, who was wearing a seat belt, was not injured. The truck had to be towed. Police said they cited the teen for disregarding traffic lanes.

5:32 p.m. Thursday — A distracted teenage driver was blamed for a chain-reaction crash that left one person injured on Route 68 at Buss Lane in Connoquenessing Township.

Police did not identify the at-fault driver, a 17-year-old Connoquenessing boy, who was behind the wheel of a pickup that rear-ended an SUV driven by Stacy M. Meyer, 50, of Evans City. The collision forced the SUV into the back of a vehicle driven by Dylan D. Roth, 28, of Evans City.

Meyer, who was not wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with a head injury. Her condition was not known. The pickup and SUV had to be towed.

Police said the boy was cited for following too closely to another vehicle, driving too fast for conditions and careless driving.

5:38 p.m. April 23 — No one was injured in a two-vehicle crash that occurred when a car driven by Ashley M. Jackson, 19, of McKeesport, Allegheny County, turned in front of a pickup truck at Route 108 and Harmony Road in Slippery Rock Township. Andrew D. Fuchs, 32, of Slippery Rock was the other driver.

Both vehicles had to be towed. Police said they cited Jackson for a stop sign violation.

April 8 — Police charged James E. Mathis, 28, of Ford City, Armstrong County, with drunken driving stemming from a sobriety checkpoint last month in Buffalo Township. Police said he was stopped around 12:35 a.m. March 17 at the checkpoint on Route 28 near exit 17.

Mathis allegedly showed signs of impairment during field sobriety tests and he was taken to the Kittanning barracks for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.100 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. He is charged with driving under the influence and careless driving.

April 5 — An Indiana County man was charged with providing a false written statement to police investigating a call March 30 for a domestic incident at a home on the 300 block of Driftwood Drive in Jefferson Township.

The defendant. Justin M. Dixon, 31, of Indiana, is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

11:03 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Marissa K. Ferrier, 22, of Slippery Rock was struck by an unidentified silver vehicle at Route 208 and Mercer Butler Pike in Springfield Township. The unknown driver did not stop. No one was injured. Ferrier’s car sustained minor damage.

7:36 p.m. April 21 — Cheri R. Morgan, 59, of Saxonburg swerved her sport utility vehicle to avoid a deer and struck a utility pole along Brent Road in Liberty Township. Police said the pole, owned by the Sprint Corp., was snapped in half and had to be replaced.

Morgan was not injured, but her vehicle had to be towed. Police cited her for two traffic violations, including disregarding traffic lanes.
