5:27 a.m. April 14 — Thomas C. Kaplin, 33, of Butler was allegedly caught with suspected crack cocaine after he was pulled over for a stop sign violation on East Brady Street.

Police said that during a consent search of the vehicle that Kaplin was driving, they found a small Ziploc bag with what appeared to be crack on the backseat floor.

He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and failing to come to a complete stop at a stop sign.

3:38 p.m. Sunday — Melissa L. Silk, 41, was arrested after she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend during a domestic dispute at her home on Coverdale Road.

Police said the 43-year-old victim told them that Silk punched him twice in the face while he was apparently driving a vehicle. One of Silk’s children, who was in the vehicle, recorded the alleged assault on her cell phone.

Silk is also accused of grabbing the man by his neck in the driveway. Police noted the victim had red marks on the right side of his face and in the back of his neck.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Silk on charges of simple assault, harassment and public drunkenness. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,000 bail following arraignment.

3:28 p.m. April 16 — A runaway tire was blamed for a three-vehicle wreck at Hansen Avenue and Logan Avenue. The accident occurred when the front wheel came off a vehicle driven by Timothy Claypoole, 22, of Lyndora.

The mishap caused the vehicle to veer to the right, hitting a parked vehicle. The wheel struck another parked vehicle. No one was injured. Claypoole’s vehicle had to be towed.

3:18 a.m. Saturday — Garrett M. Prorok, 33, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a woman during a domestic dispute at his home on Elmwood Lane in Clay Township.

The alleged victim told police that Prorok shoved her to the floor and bit her on the left wrist, according to court documents. Police said the woman had several scratches and bruises on her legs and a bite mark on her wrist under the palm.

District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Prorok on charges of simple assault, harassment and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,500 bail following arraignment.
