12:26 p.m. March 15 — Police were called for a report of a car into a tree on the 600 block of Eau Claire Street. But when officers got there, no one was around the vehicle, which had front-end damage.The investigation found that the car also had struck a city road sign and a gas company marker. An inventory search, court documents said, turned up a marijuana pipe inside the driver's side door.Police charged Carmen G. Morra, 65, of Butler with possession of drug paraphernalia, hit-and-run and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.

Wednesday — Steven E. Brittner, 54, of Forward Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop this month on Route 68 near German Street.Police said they spotted Brittner's pickup truck at 9:28 p.m. March 17 speeding near the Interstate 79 interchange. He also made an illegal U-turn before being pulled over, according to a police report.Brittner admitted to having been drinking at a nearby social club and police took him to UPMC Passavant in Cranberry Township for a blood test. Toxicology results showed Brittner's blood-alcohol level was 0.151 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Brittner was charged with driving under the influence and disobeying traffic-control devices.

Tuesday — A Washington County teenager was charged with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop last month for traveling the wrong way on Midway Alley near the Ginger Hill Tavern.Police said Alexis A. Marchando, 18, of California was stopped about 12:30 a.m. Feb. 26 at East Cooper Street and Highland Avenue. She acknowledged she had been drinking, according to court documents, but told police she was not drunk.A search of her car turned up an opened can of a malt beverage and two unopened bottles of hard cider.A breath test indicated Marchando's blood-alcohol level was 0.035 percent, documents said. In Pennsylvania, drivers under age 21 are considered to be intoxicated with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent.She was charged with driving under the influence by a minor, minors prohibited from driving with any alcohol in their system, underage possession of alcohol and driving the wrong way on a one-way road.

Tuesday — Samuel G. Firkaly, 19, of Linesville, Crawford County was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop. Police said Firkaly's vehicle was pulled over about 8:35 p.m. March 5 because one of his headlights was not working.Firkaly admitted that he had smoked marijuana two hours earlier, according to court documents. Police said they searched his pickup truck and found a makeshift marijuana pipe and other suspected contraband.He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which confirmed he had marijuana in his system.In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Firkaly was charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and a lighting violation.

Monday — Rodger W. Anthony, 47, no known address, was arrested in connection with a weekend domestic dispute during which he allegedly assaulted a woman at a home on the 200 block of South Benbrook Road in Center Township.The woman told police that Anthony punched her in the mouth, causing her to lose multiple teeth on the left side of her mouth, according to court documents. Police noted she had blood in and around her mouth and on the front of her sweater.Anthony, who had fled the home, was later found and arraigned on charges of simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.March 16 — Basil A. Luchkiw Jr., 35, of Cabot was charged with simple assault and harassment in connection with an altercation last month at a Summit Township bar.Police said Luchkiw was drinking at the Bonniebrook Club House on Bonniebrook Road about 11:15 p.m. Feb. 17 when he tried to pick a fight with another man.“Instead of hitting the man” according to court documents, “Luchkiw Jr. punched a beer bottle being held by (a woman).” The bottle struck the woman in the eye, causing a bruise.March 16 — Aaron J. Baysek, 44, of Evans City was charged with drunken driving in connection with a one-vehicle wreck this month in Connoquenessing Township.Baysek lost control of his sport utility vehicle about 11:15 p.m. March 1, police said, and struck a tree on Prospect Road. The investigating trooper got there and noticed six empty beer cans in the woods in front of the vehicle.Baysek told police he drank three beers, court documents said, before admitting he had “more to drink than just three beers.”A breath test subsequently showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.151 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Baysek is charged with driving under the influence, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.March 16 — Police charged Jennifer M. Elder, 23, of Center Township with drugged driving and possessing pills without a prescription stemming from a traffic stop last month in Summit Township.Elder was stopped about 8:25 p.m. Feb. 21 on Henricks Road for not signaling a left turn. Police said they also noticed that her windshield was cracked.Field sobriety testing indicated she was impaired on drugs, according to court documents. A search of her vehicle turned up a lip balm tin containing two pills of lorazepam, a medication often used to treat anxiety. Elder admitted she did not have a prescription for the drug.Police took her to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed she had several drugs in her system including amphetamine, methamphetamine, lorazepam, norbuprenorphin and pseudoephedrine.Elder is charged with driving under the influence of drugs, possession of a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license, failing to use turn signals and driving a vehicle with unsafe equipment.March 16 — Richard A. Hockenberry, 25, of Brady Township was charged with DUI after his pickup truck struck a deer and crashed on Route 8 in Clay Township.Police said before he hit the deer about 3:45 a.m. March 4, Hockenberry swerved to miss it and struck a ditch.The truck's passenger side tires were flattened and the drive shaft was broken in the accident, court documents said.Hockenberry admitted that he'd had “a couple beers” earlier that night, police said. He showed impairment during field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test. His blood-alcohol level was 0.109 percent.In addition to DUI, Hockenberry was charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes and careless driving.March 16 — Police charged a Clarion County man with being more than twice the state's legal limit for alcohol after an incident in January when he flagged down police in Petrolia.Police said when they came upon the defendant, Matthew P. Brinker, 36, of Hawthorn, about 12:30 p.m. Jan. 23 they noticed an open case of beer and one empty can in the back seat of his car and an empty bottle of wine in the front seat. They also saw a marijuana pipe.Brinker told police he was coming from a cemetery to visit his father's grave. He acknowledged having a couple beers at the cemetery, according to court documents.He was eventually taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.188 percent.He is charged with DUI and possession of drug paraphernalia.

Friday — The state police Bureau of Liquor Control Enforcement cited The Monroe Hotel on East Jefferson Street in Butler for violating the state liquor law by allegedly selling alcohol to a visibly intoxicated patron on Feb. 8.An administrative law judge will hear the case.
