Wednesday — Police charged Dennis E. Hodgson, 64, of Butler with backing his vehicle into a car occupied by a woman and a child last week and driving away. The accident happened about 7:30 p.m. Jan. 31 at the Shell gas station on the West Jefferson Street.

The woman provided police with the license plate number of Hodgson's vehicle. Her car sustained nearly $700 in damage to the front bumper.

Police checked surveillance footage at the store, which showed Hodgson backing into the victim's car. He drove off without providing any information to the woman.

Hodgson is charged with hit-and-run.

12:17 p.m. Tuesday — Police identified the woman who was injured after being thrown out of her Jeep Wrangler in a one-vehicle accident on Delwood Road at Zenith Road.

Heather Strobel, 43, of Butler was taken to an unspecified Pittsburgh hospital for treatment of unknown injuries. Her condition was not available Thursday.

Police said she lost control of her vehicle and struck an embankment before rolling over onto the road. The Jeep's roof came off during the crash and the Jeep landed on its side beneath the Route 422 overpass.

The road was closed near its intersection with Jefferson Street while the vehicle was towed. The Butler and East Butler fire departments responded to the crash.

7:20 a.m. Tuesday — April Stadtmiller, 38, of Butler was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at Benbrook Road and Greenwood Drive. The wreck happened when a sport utility vehicle driven by Kellie L. Hardman, 22, of Vandergrift, Westmoreland County, struck Stadtmiller's SUV.

Police said Stadtmiller suffered minor injuries. Hardman was cited for driving too fast for conditions and a stop sign violation.

Tuesday — Kristi K. Kiefer, 41, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a police call last month about a woman passed out in her car at the Sunoco gas station on East Jefferson Street.

Police said they found Kiefer shortly after 10 p.m. Jan. 17 lying in the vehicle's driver's seat. Officers banged on the windows before opening the passenger side door, according to court documents. She eventually woke up.

Kiefer did not know what day or month it was, police said. When asked if she had taken any drugs, Kiefer told police that she is on methadone. In the glove box, officers found prescription pill bottles.

Police gave her field sobriety tests during which she showed impairment. Kiefer is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance.

Monday — Police charged David R. Coleman, 50, of Butler with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop last month in Butler. He was pulled over about 2:50 p.m. Jan. 19, police said, for making an illegal turn at North Monroe and Kittanning streets.

Field sobriety tests indicated impairment, according to court documents, and police took him to the barracks for a breath test. He recorded a blood-alcohol level of 0.089 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

Coleman is charged with driving under the influence, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or greater while under license suspension, careless driving, making an improper left turn and not wearing a seat belt.

Feb. 2 — Samantha A. Maseroni, 28, of Butler was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Butler Township. Police pulled her over about 10:40 p.m. Jan. 18, after her car crossed into the opposing lane on Hansen Avenue near Route 8 without signaling, forcing a trooper to slam on the brakes of his cruiser.

Maseroni failed field sobriety testing and was taken to the barracks for a breath test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.106 percent.

She is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to use turn signals, careless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

Feb. 2 — Police charged Stephen W. Riegle, 60, of Butler with having marijuana and other drug contraband in connection with a December traffic stop in Butler Township.

Police about 5 p.m. Dec. 12 stopped Riegle's car when they spotted it with an expired license plate at Moraine Pointe Plaza. A trooper smelled marijuana coming from the vehicle and Riegle admitted having smoked the drug the day before, according to court documents.

Riegle turned over a plastic bag containing marijuana, police said. A search of the car subsequently turned up an electronic scale.

He is charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, driving with a suspended license and driving an unregistered vehicle.

9 p.m. Jan. 29 — Someone vandalized a woman's house on East Red Oak Court. Anyone with information is to call police at 724-284-8100.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]

Thursday — Police reported they captured a 17-year-old boy who Dec. 19 escaped the George Junior Republic juvenile detention center in Pine Township, Mercer County.

The teenager, who police did not identify, has been placed in a different detention facility. He is charged with escape in Mercer County juvenile court.
