Friday — Nancy A. Hinchberger, 51, of Butler was charged with giving a bogus name to police who were investigating a complaint of drug activity last month in the area of Spang and Walker avenues.

She also was caught with cocaine and a small scale, according to court documents.

Police said Hinchberger was a passenger in a sport utility vehicle stopped about 2 p.m. Jan. 31. The driver, who was not identified in court documents, was found to be wanted on a warrant and arrested.

She eventually was allowed to leave but police later learned that she had given a false name. Police called her Feb. 1, documents said, and she admitted to giving a phony identification.

Police said Best was identified on a Boscov’s surveillance video as stealing $155 worth of merchandise, primarily children’s clothing, about 2 p.m. Saturday. He was arraigned on misdemeanor counts of retail theft and receiving stolen property, and placed in Butler County Prison on $30,000 bail.

Friday — John M. Rose III, 48, of Butler Township was charged with being more than three times the state’s legal limit for alcohol after a traffic stop in Butler Township. Police said they stopped him on New Castle Road for driving without his lights on.

Rose initially denied having consumed any alcohol but subsequently failed field sobriety testing. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.

Toxicology results later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.25 percent. In Pennsylvania, a level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated.

In addition to driving under the influence, Rose is charged with driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or greater while under license suspension, careless driving and a lighting violation.

4:02 a.m. Jan. 27 — Brock T. Maihle, 29, of Summit Township was arrested for DUI after he was stopped for speeding and failing to stay in his lane on Route 8 near the Clearview Mall in Center Township.

Police later took him to the barracks for a breath test, documents said, which indicated his blood-alcohol level was 0.166 percent. This is his second DUI, police noted in documents.

Maihle was arraigned on charges of DUI, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or greater while under license suspension, disregarding traffic lanes, speeding and not wearing a seat belt. He was released on $2,500 unsecured bail following arraignment.
