Monday — Alexandra S. Charmley, 20, of Butler was charged with writing three worthless rent checks, which totaled $1,500, that she passed on to her landlord between Oct. 17 and Nov. 6.
The checks were written on a credit union account that did not have sufficient funds to cover them, according to court documents.
An official for Martin Property Rentals, the victim, later sent a certified letter to the defendant seeking payment but the letter went unclaimed. The official eventually spoke to Charmley by telephone and advised her that the company was prepared to file a complaint with police if she did not make restitution.
The defendant in response, documents said, accused the official of “ruining her life.”
Charmley is charged with three misdemeanor counts of bad checks.

Wednesday — Three Butler area men were charged with having suspected heroin in connection with an October traffic stop in the 100 block of Muddy Creek Drive in Center Township. Police said the trio was stopped about 12:20 p.m. Oct. 16 in a car with an illegal license plate.
While at the car, court documents said, a trooper spotted what appeared to be several stamp bags of suspected heroin and an orange syringe cap inside.
Police said a subsequent search of the vehicle turned up an unspecified number of stamp bags, syringes and other drug contraband.
Charged with misdemeanor possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia are Craig E. Cyphert, 47; Eugene W. Codispot, 55; and Benjamin T. Zellefrow, 39.
Cyphert was cited with two traffic violations for the license plate.
Wednesday — James A. Fresh Jr., 49, of Parker was charged with drunken driving stemming from a December crash in Parker Township. Police said about 3:30 p.m. Dec. 22 he wrecked his pickup truck into a tree along Route 268 near Surface Mine Road.
Fresh, was bleeding from the head and smelled of alcohol, police said. He was taken to a hospital for a blood draw. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.119 percent. A level of 0.08 percent or above is considered intoxicated under state law.
In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, careless driving and driving with an open container of alcohol.
Wednesday — Michael R. Lucas, 49, of Butler was charged with having a counterfeit plate on his minivan Dec. 14 on the 600 block of Evans City Road in Connoquenessing Township.
He is charged with having altered, forged or counterfeit documents and plates, a misdemeanor. Additionally, he was cited for three summary offenses: driving a vehicle without valid inspection, violating the use of an inspection sticker and displaying a fictitious inspection sticker.
2:46 p.m. Friday — No injuries were reported in a crash in Center Township, on Mercer Road at Sunset Drive. A 2003 Ford Explorer Sport Trac pulled into the path of a 2009 GMC Sierra causing the crash. Both vehicles were driven from the scene.
3:57 p.m. Friday — No injuries were reported in a crash on Hooker Road in Concord Township. Police said a 17-year-old Karns City boy lost control of his 2008 Chevrolet Cobalt. The vehicle spun and hit a 2012 GMC Sierra, driven by Frank J. Weber, 28, of East Sunbury. The boy’s vehicle was towed.
7:35 p.m. Aug. 31 — A 60-year-old Bruin man is accused of an unsworn falsification to authorities during the sale or transfer of a firearm.
The incident happened at Logan’s Gun Gallery in Washington Township, police said.
The investigation is ongoing.

6 a.m. Saturday — No injuries were reported in a crash in Clintonville on Interstate 80. Police said Semsudin Bilalic, 47, of Hamtramck, Mich., was driving a 2014 Freightliner tractor-trailer west when a fire erupted around the brakes of the rear tires of the trailer. The driver of a PennDOT truck following observed the flames and alerted the driver, who stopped the vehicle. Clintonville Volunteer Fire Department assisted on the scene.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]
Sunday — A Stoneboro teenager was arrested on charges stemming from the shooting of a 15-year-old boy in Sandy Lake Township.
The defendant, 18-year-old Tristan B. Schaffer, fired a gun at a home on the 600 block of Anderson Road, just after 9 p.m. Saturday, hitting the boy in the upper left arm, according to a police report.
The child was taken to Grove City Medical Center and then transferred to Children’s Hospital in Pittsburgh, where he remains. His condition was not available.
Schaffer was arraigned on charges of aggravated assault, simple assault and reckless endangerment. He is free on $25,000 bail.
3:45 p.m. Thursday — No injuries were reported in a crash on Sandy Lake Road in Wolf Creek Township. Rusty J. Donaldson, 44, of Harrisville, told police he was driving north when a silver Honda crossed over the center line into his path, causing him to brake hard, losing control and skidding across the road, hitting a ditch and tree. Police said the other vehicle was unable to be found. Donaldson’s vehicle was towed.
