Duval Harvin

A Philadelphia man was paroled in Butler County Court Thursday, after being sentenced to time served.

Duval Dontae Najeer Harvin, 24, was sentenced to time served to one year in Butler County Prison by Judge William Shaffer.

He was given 156 days time credit and was immediately paroled. Shaffer also ordered he pay a $50 fine and court costs.

Harvin pleaded guilty Jan. 16 to misdemeanor false identification to law enforcement and possession of a controlled substance.

He was initially charged with felony possession with intent to deliver a controlled substance, which was dismissed as part of the plea.

Butler police filed the charges after an incident in the parking lot of a convenience store on West Jefferson Street on Aug. 21, when a patrol officer driving by on North Chestnut Street near Jefferson Street spotted what appeared to be a drug deal.

When officers approached Harvin he gave a false name, court documents state.

Police said they noticed the front seat passenger, Quintin Copple, 38, of Brady Township, making “furtive movements.”

Once Copple was taken out of the car a loaded syringe was found on the floor between the door and front passenger seat, police said.

Copple told officers that he was there to purchase drugs from Harvin, police said.

Officers checked the area where they caught Harvin and found a plastic baggie corner containing suspected crack cocaine, according to court documents.

Copple faces a charge of possession of drug paraphernalia, and is wanted by police on a warrant for failure to appear at a court hearing.
