A man suffered scrapes and pain to his hand and hip from being struck by a vehicle while in a crosswalk in the Walmart parking lot in Butler Township, according to police.

Thomas Arthur Bergbigler, 55, allegedly told the man he struck, “sorry, didn’t see you” before driving away, Butler Township police said. Police said Bergbigler told the man he was going to “pull out of the way” before he left the scene Aug. 16.

Bergbigler was charged Wednesday, Sept. 16, with two misdemeanor counts of accidents involving injury and misdemeanor reckless endangerment following the incident. Police said he was driving on a suspended license.

Police said the man slid off the hood of Bergbigler’s Nissan Versa and suffered scrapes to his knees and pain to his right hand and hip.

When police asked Bergbigler about the incident, he said he stopped and helped the man up from the ground. He said the man told him to call the police but did not believe Bergbigler needed to remain at the scene.

Bergbigler’s preliminary hearing has not been scheduled.
