Parker Bish scores 5 TDs as Union/A-C Valley football bounces back in big way, dismantling Cameron County
RIMERSBURG, Clarion County — Clear skies and cool weather set the table for plenty of offense Friday night. Offense did follow, with 63 total points lighting up the scoreboard before the final whistle.
And it was Union/A-C Valley this time on the right side of a blowout football win, trouncing Cameron County 55-8 at Union High School’s Vidunas Stadium.
At just two minutes left in the first quarter, both teams had completed methodical opening drives, incorporating a consistent ground game leading to eight points apiece.
Cue Parker Bish and the Falcon Knights (2-2, 1-0 District 9, Region 3).
U/ACV’s opening score was a 5-yard rushing touchdown by Bish. Its second was also a Bish score, as were the third, fourth and fifth touchdowns.
“He’s got unbelievable vision, and then he’s got a burst whenever he sees something there,” Falcon Knights head coach Dan Reed said.
Bish ended the night with those five touchdowns, 235 yards and multiple big defensive plays, often coming in the form of tackles for loss.
“It’s all the work I’m putting in,” Bish said. “It feels great that I was a big factor in this game. Coming in, I didn’t have a bunch of good games, but this game I really think I proved myself.”
When the Red Raiders (2-1, 1-1) went up by eight points early, it felt as though their offensive line may be able to dictate at least that portion of the game, but the Falcon Knights took control of the trenches on both sides of the ball the rest of the way. In many cases, those linemen weren’t the planned starters to begin the year.
“We lost three more offensive lineman; we have so many kids hurt,” Reed said. “These JV kids just stepped up. We had a ton of JV kids playing on both sides of the ball the whole second half, and they stepped up and played really well.”
While Bish had several impressive cuts, usually including at least three or four juke moves on his long scores, the injury-plagued patchwork offensive line afforded him plenty of holes.
“I couldn’t do it without my linemen, they did a really good job. Also, the wide receivers, they picked it up,” Bish said.
While his running back took the spotlight, Falcon Knights’ quarterback Andrew Kifer had quite a good game with 180 passing yards and two touchdowns. Perhaps his most important moment, though, was a third-and-11 completion to Connor Langdon to salvage their opening drive that led to eight points.
“We feel our passing game can compete with anybody. Andrew Kifer can really throw the football. If he gets protection, I think we’re gonna be really good,” Reed said.
The only real disappointment amidst the Falcon Knights’ 55-point unanswered run was a blocked extra point with three minutes left on the clock. Marshall Hepler made sure that feeling would not last, picking a ball off shortly after and taking it to the house, invoking the mercy rule, putting a bow on U/ACV’s 47-point win.
“Our defense stepped up. We made a few adjustments. They stepped up and shut them down,” Reed said.
A reignited Falcon Knights team looks to keep up the momentum against Ridgway next week.
