10:24 p.m. Wednesday — Darin E. Gillott, 53, of Butler Township was arrested for driving under the influence on the 100 block of West Jefferson Street.

Police said they stopped Gillott after he made a right turn without using his turn signal and partially crossed into the opposing travel lane. He admitted to drinking before driving, according to court documents.

Field sobriety tests, police said, indicated “high levels” of impairment and Gillott was taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.158 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

He is charged with DUI and failing to use turn signals.

Documents noted the arrest was his third one for DUI within the past 10 years.

Thursday — John W. Jacobs, 47, and Renee L. Simons, 51, both of Butler were charged with teaming up in connection with a pair of shoplifting incidents last year at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

Police said the defendants on Oct. 20 worked together to take $188.45 worth of merchandise, and on Oct. 22 schemed again to take items valued at $99.96.

Jacobs, a police report said, on Oct. 30 worked alone to shoplift $125 in merchandise at the same store.

The alleged shoplifters were identified in early December. Both are charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and conspiracy.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]

Wednesday — An Allegheny County man was charged with drunken driving stemming from a traffic stop last month on Franklin Street. Police said they stopped Nicholas J. Sebastian, 25, of Imperial about 1:10 a.m. Dec. 29 after they saw his pickup truck swerve and cross the double yellow line.

Sebastian admitted to have had a “few beers” earlier that night and he subsequently failed field sobriety tests. He was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.094 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with disregarding traffic lanes.

Wednesday — Police charged a Mercer County woman in connection with a Dec. 21 shoplifting incident at the Giant Eagle store at Slippery Rock Plaza.

The defendant, Madeleine R. McConnell, 21, of Mercer allegedly left the store with a shopping cart full of groceries. Security footage, according to court documents, showed the woman walking the store “with her hood up, loading the shopping cart.”

She is accused of walking off with the merchandise valued at $300.

McConnell is charged with retail theft.

[naviga:h3]Butler County Sheriff’s Office[/naviga:h3]

10:30 a.m. Wednesday — Thomas Lee Shuler, 32, of Summit Township was caught with suspected marijuana, a scale and other drug items at a business on Rimp Road in Summit Township, where deputies had gone to serve a bench warrant.

A search of Shuler, according to court documents, turned up three baggies containing a combined 45 to 50 grams of suspected marijuana. He also was found with a small electronic scale, two crack pipes, a straw, a steel wool scrubbing pad, a pill crusher and rolling papers.

Deputies noted that he also had $315 in his wallet. He was later placed in the Butler County Prison on the warrant.

Shuler is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

8:11 a.m. Saturday — A Youngstown, Ohio, man was cited for careless driving for allegedly falling asleep at the wheel and crashing his car on Route 422 in Muddycreek Township.

Shavkat Mirzoev, 42, was driving west on Route 422 when he exited the road and hit a guard rail, police said. He was not injured in the crash.

8:18 a.m. Friday — John C. Roofner, 30, of Worthington was cited for speeding after getting in a crash on Marwood Road in Winfield Township. Police say Roofner, driving a Subaru Legacy southbound, spun out while taking a right-hand curve near the intersection with Hembold Avenue and hit a Ford F-250 driven by Carl E. Bachman, 55, of Butler. No one was injured.

10:13 a.m. Friday — James M. Easley, 78, of Bruin was pulling out of a driveway when his sport utility vehicle was struck by another SUV on School Street just south of Annisville Road in Bruin.

Police cited Easley for improperly entering or crossing a road. Ronald K. Ritzert, 51, of Karns City was the other driver.

6:31 a.m. Friday — Vehicles driven by Nikolas D. Goas, 20, of Butler and Saydie A. Moore, 20, of East Brady, Clarion County, crashed at Bonniebrook Road and Shacklee Drive in Summit Township.

Police cited Goas for driving too fast for conditions.

Wednesday — Michael E. Webb, 49, of Butler was charged with having drugs and other contraband last month at a motel in Franklin Township.

Police were called Dec. 21 to the Longhorn Corral Saloon and Motel on Route 422 where county probation officers had gone as part of a warrant service detail, court documents said.

Officers found Webb in one of the rooms. They also found an open case that contained a pill bottle with suspected crack cocaine in it, an empty stamp bag of suspected heroin, a hypodermic needle, crack pipe and rolling papers.

Also seized were two drug-smoking pipes and a marijuana grinder, documents said. A search of the defendant turned up another drug pipe.

Webb is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

Tuesday — Morgan F. Mann, 33, of Chicora was charged with being more than double the legal limit for alcohol stemming from a Dec. 29 traffic stop. A faulty license plate light led to the stop on Route 268 near the Bruin Bowling Alley in Parker Township, police said.

Mann was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. A breath test, according to court documents, showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.163 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

She is charged with driving under the influence, driving without a license, driving with a blood-alcohol level of 0.02 percent or greater while under license suspension, driving without valid inspection and a lighting violation.

Dec. 28 — Gary L. Piper II, 43, was arrested stemming from a Christmas Day domestic dispute at his home where he allegedly assaulted his wife at their home on Washington Street in Bruin.

The woman told police, according to count documents, that Piper slapped, punched, shoved and grabbed her by the throat several times about 7 p.m. Dec. 25.

Police said Piper admitted hitting his wife. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault and harassment, and released on $30,000 unsecured bail.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Clarion[/naviga:h3]

6:43 a.m. Thursday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Jenny K. McGinnis, 45, of Parker collided with a car pulling out of Lime Plant Road at Route 368 in Perry Township, Clarion County.

The other driver, Eric D. Householder, 30, of New Kensington, Westmoreland County, was cited for a stop sign violation.

Friday — A Cabot man is accused of possessing marijuana during a traffic stop on Route 28 in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County.

James A. Westerman, 41, will faces charges for possessing a controlled substance.
