Police said Yartz punched the boy on the left side of the face. The alleged assault occurred after the defendant, victim and the boy’s mother left the store and returned to their car, according to court documents.

The boy and his mother got out of the car and the defendant drove away. Police described the victim’s injuries as facial redness and swelling.

Officers later went to Yartz’s home where he was arrested. He was arraigned on charges of simple assault, harassment and driving with a suspended license. He was released on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

Monday — Brent E. Henry, 44, of Valencia was charged with drunken driving in connection with a hit-and-run wreck last month on Route 8 at Vogel Road that injured a Renfrew couple on a motorcycle.

Police said Henry was driving a Chrysler PT Cruiser about 6:30 p.m. Oct. 22 and struck the back of the cycle driven by David McBrien, 50, who was stopped at a green light and waiting to make a left turn.

Henry is accused of fleeing after the wreck, which threw McBrien and his wife, Amy McBrien, 49, off the cycle. Amy suffered the worst of the injuries and needed neck surgery, according to court documents. David had a scrape on his right knee.

While police were investigating they learned that Henry’s PT Cruiser had crashed on Meridian Road near the Renfrew Post Office in Penn Township.

He was eventually taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.205 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. He also had marijuana in his system.

Henry is charged with driving under the influence, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, accidents involving injury, accidents involving injury while not properly licensed, hit-and-run, failing to stop and render aid after an accident and failing to immediately notify police of an accident.

Additionally, he is charged with driving with a suspended license, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.

Friday — Timothy P. Pitzer, 37, of Slippery Rock Township allegedly scuffled with troopers who arrested him for drunken driving in Center Township.

Police said they stopped Pitzer for going 71 mph on a 55 mph stretch on Route 8. Asked how much he had to drink that day, according to court documents, he replied, “enough.”

The defendant showed impairment during one field sobriety test but further testing was stopped because of his alleged intoxicated condition. Pitzer was arrested but before being placed in the cruiser, documents said, he tried to walk away.

Police said they had to forcibly stop him and eventually placed his upper body on the hood of the patrol car.

“Pitzer used his weight to push (two troopers) away from the car and into the northbound lane,” according to a police affidavit.

He is listed on his criminal complaint as weighing 370 pounds.

He eventually was taken to the barracks in Butler Township for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.192 percent, more than twice the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit.

Pitzer was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence, resisting arrest, speeding, disregarding traffic lanes and not wearing a seat belt. He was released on his own recognizance following arraignment.
