Monday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Frank T. Burka IV, 30, of Butler Township on charges he used his brother’s debit card without authorization in August.

Burka is accused of making two withdrawals Aug. 2 and 3, totaling $500, at the Butler Armco Credit Union on Hollywood Drive. The card owner, Brian Burka, reported the case to police Aug. 25 and showed them his bank statement showing the unauthorized automated teller machine transactions.

Police secured photos of the suspect from the credit union’s security system. When showed the photos, Brian Burka “immediately identified the vehicle and suspect as his brother,” according to court documents.

Brian Burka told police he never gave the defendant permission to use the card, or provided his personal identification number.

Frank Burka is charged with a felony count of access device fraud.

4:31 p.m. Nov. 4 — Estefany DeJesus-Besares, 25, of Butler and Lyangie Cruz Medina, 26, of Dansville, N.Y., were caught allegedly trying to leave the Butler Commons’ Walmart without paying for 15 items valued at $63.31 at the self-checkout registers. Police cited both for retail theft.

[naviga:h3]Jackson Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Nov. 1 — Mark E. Dodson, 49, of Jackson Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a one-vehicle wreck last month on Ridge Road. Police said he crashed his pickup truck into a tree shortly after 1 p.m. Sept. 27, causing a power outage.

When police got there, they found no one in or around the truck. At least one witness reported seeing a man walking from the crash scene into a home.

The home is Dodson’s, according to a police report, and that’s where they found him. Police said he smelled of alcohol, but he told them he had quit drinking at 3 a.m.

A preliminary breath test showed his blood-alcohol was above the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit. He was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test that showed his level was 0.30 percent.

In addition to driving under the influence, Dodson is charged with reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

Monday — Police charged an Armstrong County woman with stealing $2,000 worth of frozen food in September from the Longhorn Corral Saloon and Motel on Route 422 in Franklin Township.

Dawn D. Kummer, 46, of Leechburg is accused of taking the food from a freezer about 8:40 p.m. Sept. 9. Security camera footage showed Kummer placing the items into her purse and fleeing, according to court documents.

She is charged with a first-degree misdemeanor count of theft.

Monday — Benjamin D. Lukens, 19, of Clearfield Township was charged with drugged driving stemming from a Sept. 8 crash in Summit Township. Police suspect the teenager was impaired about 10 p.m. when his pickup truck wrecked on Herman Road near Stutz Road.

Lukens failed field sobriety tests and was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports showed he had the prescription medication alprazolam and marijuana in this system, court documents said.

He is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving and reckless driving.

Monday — Police charged Joseph A. Fosnaught, 20, of Saxonburg with having marijuana stemming from an Aug. 31 traffic stop in Butler. The stop was made because the defendant was driving a car with an expired inspection sticker.

A trooper got to the car and smelled marijuana and saw a beer can behind the driver’s seat, according to court documents. Fosnaught turned over a baggie containing suspected marijuana that was in the center console.

Police later searched the car and found a hidden compartment in the console that contained additional baggies with suspected marijuana, numerous marijuana pipes and two other baggies with an unknown white residue in them.

Fosnaught is charged with possession of a controlled substance, six counts of possession of drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol, driving with an open container of alcohol and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.

7:50 p.m. Nov. 3 — David K. Arnold, 38, was arrested after he allegedly assaulted his mother, Mary Arnold, during a domestic dispute at the family’s home on Snyder Lane in Clearfield Township.

Police said Mary Arnold suffered facial and neck injuries and bruising on her arms.

According to court documents, police had to take David Arnold to the ground after he struggled with troopers’ efforts to place him in handcuffs.

He was arraigned on charges of simple assault, resisting arrest, disorderly conduct and harassment, and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

Oct. 29 — Police charged two Slippery Rock University students with having marijuana in September in Slippery Rock. Edward C. Turney III, 19, and Curran N. Shelton, no age given, both of Slippery Rock were found about 12:35 p.m. Sept. 17 sitting on lawn chairs at a home on Normal Avenue.

A trooper said he smelled marijuana and one of the men, later identified as Turney, appeared to have a marijuana cigarette. Police searched a back pack belonging to Turney and found a plastic container with suspected marijuana in it.

Both men are charged with possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

1:20 p.m. Wednesday — A 42-year-old Cownansville man was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance at Hogg and Beatty Mills Road in North Buffalo Township, Armstrong County. Police said charges are pending lab results.

12:25 p.m. Wednesday — A Kittanning man was arrested after he allegedly broke into a garage at a North Buffalo Township home.

Jonathan B. Cumberledge, 36, of Kittanning was arraigned on charges of burglary, trespass and disorderly conduct, and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $25,000 bail.

Cumberledge is accused of busting out a side window to get into the garage on Rhea Road. The 54-year-old homeowner saw the man’s head inside of the window, according to a police report, and scared him away.
