11:44 p.m. Tuesday — Donald J. Slomer Jr., 29, of Clay Township was arrested for drunken driving after he ran a flashing red light at West New Castle Street and Fourth Avenue.
Slomer admitted that he had consumed two 16-ounce cans of beer before driving, according to court documents. He failed field sobriety tests and was taken for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.089 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
In addition to driving under the influence, Slomer is charged with driving with a suspended license, the flashing red light violation and driving a vehicle with illegal sunscreening.
3:41 p.m. Saturday — John E. Testa Jr., 43, of Butler suffered an apparent overdose at a home on the 400 block of Center Avenue. He was later revived with the opioid antidote Narcan.
A woman who lives at the home called 911 to report finding Testa unconscious on the couch and turning blue. He came to after a Butler Ambulance Service crew gave him a dose of Narcan.
Testa, upon regaining consciousness, admitted using two bags of heroin “several hours ago,” according to a police report.
10:09 a.m. Saturday — No one was injured in a two-vehicle wreck at North and North Main streets. Police identified the drivers as Barbara Carson, 85, of Butler and James Chatfield, 73, of Pittsburgh.
A police report was not completed and no other information was available.
4:50 a.m. Aug. 31 — Nicholas J. Campbell, 35, of Lyndora was arrested on charges he broke into his mother’s apartment on the 200 block of Mercer Street.
The victim, Arlene Campbell, told police that her son is not allowed at her home. Earlier that morning, according to court documents, he was advised that he was not permitted there and police cited him for defiant trespass.
Arlene Campbell recounted in the latest incident her son showed up at her apartment and knocked on the door. When she opened the door, documents said, he walked in.
The defendant’s mother, who “feared for her life,” according to a police affidavit, ran out of her apartment and went to a family member’s home.
Campbell was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail following arraignment.
5:15 p.m. Aug. 31 — Katelyn J. Messer, 21, no known address, was arrested for allegedly giving police a bogus name after being picked up on a bench warrant on Wagner Avenue near West New Castle Street.
Police took Messer to the station where they confirmed her identity. She was searched and found with 10 stamp bags of suspected heroin as well as suspected crack cocaine, a crack pipe and other drug contraband.
She was arraigned on two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and one count each of possession of drug paraphernalia and false identification to law enforcement authorities. She was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
Aug. 29 — Bruce A. Locke, 46, of Muddy Creek Township was arrested on charges he broke into his wife’s home Aug. 24 on Heim Avenue. The victim, Theresa Locke, had a protection from abuse order that bars her husband from any contact with her, police said.
Theresa Locke told police that she was sleeping on the couch about 6 p.m. when she discovered the defendant in her home. Locke ran when officers got there but he was quickly caught, according to court documents.
Police inspected the house and found a broken lock on a window and a torn screen.
Locke was arraigned on a felony charge of trespass and later placed in the Butler County Prison on $1,000 bail.
Aug. 29 — Jeremy J. Whittington, 40, of Butler was charged with having drugs and other contraband last week at an apartment on Liberty Street. Police had gone to the apartment about 2:30 p.m. Aug. 24 to investigate a reported burglary.
Whittington told officers he was at his friend’s home, according to court documents. While in the house, police noticed a small amount of suspected crack cocaine. A search of Whittington turned up a crack pipe in his pants pocket.
He admitted the crack and pipe were his, documents said. He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.
Aug. 29 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Matthew G. Hibbard, 22, no known address, on charges he stole a ring, valued at $795, as well as a credit card and money from a man’s locker at the YMCA on North Washington Street.
Hibbard allegedly took the items Aug. 23. The victim later checked his credit card statement and found two fraudulent transactions at a pair of city stores, according to court documents.
Police reviewed surveillance video from one the stores and an officer recognized Hibbard, who is charged with misdemeanor counts of theft and access device fraud.
12:41 p.m. Aug. 26 — Robert A. Morrow, 24, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly shoplifted a package of T-shirts from the Family Dollar store at the Pullman Square shopping plaza.
Police said Morrow took off running but they caught him a short time later at Pillow Street and Fifth Avenue.
The defendant, who has three prior shoplifting convictions, was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

9:27 p.m. Saturday — David E. Lamison, 53, of Butler was arrested after being stopped for suspected shoplifting and having drugs at the Butler Commons Walmart.
Police said Lamison, a repeat shoplifter, was arraigned on a felony charge of retail theft and misdemeanor charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail following arraignment.
3 p.m. Friday — Police arrested a homeless woman after she was caught allegedly shoplifting $37 worth of merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Emily J. Jones, 30, is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.
Jones, 30, who is formerly from Massachusetts, was also found to be wanted by state police in Greensburg for a shoplifting incident July 24 in Westmoreland County. She was placed in the Butler County Prison.
12:32 p.m. Friday — No one was injured when vehicles driven by Raymond Ramelli, 75, and Alice M. Omelia, 25, both of Butler collided at Whitestown and South Duffy roads. Police said Ramelli was cited for failing to stop at a red light.
Aug. 30 — Police charged two Butler women with working together to allegedly shoplift $185.72 in merchandise at the Walmart at Butler Commons.
Annette G. Budner, 55, and Deborah A. Kabel, 53, are both charged with conspiracy. Budner also is charged with misdemeanor retail theft and Kabel is charged with summary retail theft.
Aug. 30 — Ryan P. Bickford, 29, of Butler was charged in connection with an August shoplifting incident at the self-checkout registers at the Butler Commons Walmart.
Bickford is accused of swapping cheaper bar code stickers with more expensive items, and scanning them to get a reduced price. The alleged phony bar code scam was valued at $257.58, according to a police report.
9:30 p.m. Aug. 29 — Richard Jamison Jr., 33, of Butler was arrested after he was found unresponsive in the Burger King restaurant on Route 8 south. He was searched and found with a suspected marijuana pipe.
Jamison is charged with public drunkenness and possession of drug paraphernalia.

12:17 a.m. Aug. 26 — Damien E. Wilson, 30, of Grove City was arrested for drunken driving after he was spotted going the wrong way on Fairview Drive. Police stopped him on South Main Street.
Police got to the defendant’s vehicle and noticed his front-seat passenger was unconscious. Wilson told officers that the passenger, Jeb M. Cook, was passed out from “drinking too much alcohol,” according to court documents.
State police arrived on scene and one of the troopers gave Cook a sternum rub but was unable to awaken him. Trooper Joseph Titler noticed needle tracks on Cook’s hand and subsequently administered two doses of Narcan, a drug used to reverse opioid overdoses.
Cook regained consciousness. When he got out of the vehicle, documents said, police noticed a syringe fall from his lap.
Wilson submitted to a portable breath test which indicated he had alcohol in his system. He admitted he had been drinking, but later refused both a blood test and a formal breath test.
He is charged with driving under the influence and going the wrong way on a one-way street.
2:10 a.m. Aug. 18 — Joshua A. Winieski, 23, of Sarver was arrested for DUI after he was stopped for twice crossing the double-yellow line on Franklin Street. His car also had a burned out headlight.
Winieski, who admitted having consumed two beers that evening, failed field sobriety testing and was taken for a breath test that showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.104 percent, court documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.
He is charged with DUI, disregarding traffic lane and a lighting violation.
[naviga:h3]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h3]
3:59 p.m. Tuesday — Darren W. Marino, 30, of Butler was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance on Blair Street in Grove City.
A search of Marino’s vehicle turned up a small amount of suspected marijuana, according to court documents. Charges are pending results of a blood test.
