7:31 p.m. Saturday—A 14-year-old girl was hurt when a vehicle hit her as she ran across West Cunningham Street near Papa John’s Pizza. Police are investigating but an accident report, including the girl’s name, was not available.

A Butler Fire Department officer said the teenager suffered minor scrapes on her head and the back of an arm. She was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital.

8 p.m. Wednesday— Jonathan A. Wheeler Jr., 30, was arrested after he allegedly choked and assaulted his girlfriend during a domestic dispute at his home on the 600 block of North Chestnut Street.

The alleged victim, Hannah Miller, told police that the defendant threw her on the bed and placed both of his hands around her neck, according to court documents. She said that at one point she couldn’t breathe.

Later, Miller recounted, Wheeler held her by the wrists and refused to let her leave the room. He also took her cell phone and threw it at her, hitting her in the forehead.

She eventually was able to get away and go to Butler Memorial Hospital, where police were called and spoke to her, documents said.

Police said she had red marks on her neck and on both wrists, and a bruise on the left side of her forehead.

Wheeler was arraigned on a felony charge of strangulation and misdemeanor charges of unlawful restraint and simple assault. He was released on $15,000 unsecured bail following arraignment.

3:50 a.m. Wednesday— Bruce A. Locke, 46, of Muddy Creek Township was arrested after he allegedly broke into his wife’s home on Heim Avenue. Theresa Locke has a protection from abuse order that bars her husband from the home, according to court documents.

Theresa Locke told officers that she was sleeping upstairs when she awoke to the defendant standing over her, police said. They went onto the front porch where, documents said, “she kept asking her why she left him and also why she got a PFA.”

The victim said she asked her husband several times to leave but he refused. After 911 was called and he saw police cars pull up to the home, Locke allegedly fled through the back yard.

When Theresa Locke went back into her house, she noticed a window on the side of her house had been forced open.

Locke was arrested and arraigned Thursday on a charge of burglary. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $50,000 bail following arraignment.

Monday—Bethany J. Hall, 32, and Dorothy M. Littlejohn, 39, both of Butler were charged in connection with a shoplifting incident last month at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

The defendants are accused of attempting to steal $957.10 in merchanide. Hall and Littlejohn are both charged with misdemeanor counts of retail theft and conspiracy.

[naviga:h3]Middlesex Twp Police[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 22—Christine R. Banfield, 28, of Butler was arrested on charges she broke into her father’s home on Kelly Drive earlier this month and stole currency and credit cards.

The alleged victim, Brian Banfield, told police that sometime 12:30 p.m. Aug. 1 and 6 a.m. Aug. 2, someone had removed an air conditioner from a window and gotten inside his house. He said his daughter, who no longer lives there, was at the house overnight.

He also told police, according to court documents, that she “is “involved with drugs and has several court cases pending.”

Later on Aug. 2 while at a store, he noticed $200 and debit/credit cards were missing from his wallet. He said the wallet the prior night had been on the night stand near the window where the air conditioner had been moved.

He checked with his bank and found three unauthorized debit car transactions totaling $407.43 had been made between 1 and 6 a.m. Aug. 2 at the Walmart in Gibsonia, documents said.

Banfield’s mother on Aug. 3 texted the defendant and asked, “What did you do with dad’s credit cards?” a police affidavit said. Banfield replied, “They are in the mailbox.”

She was arraigned Aug. 22 on a felony charged of trespass and misdemeanor charges of theft and access device fraud. She was placed n the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.

[naviga:h3]Slippery Rock Police[/naviga:h3]

Aug. 22—Police charged Steven A. Johnson, 29, of Grove City with bouncing two checks in July at the Giant Eagle store on Grove City Road. He is accused of passing the checks, which were written on a closed account, on July 2 and 4.

Both of the fraudulent checks, according to court documents, were used to buy cigarettes totaling $272.62. Johnson is charged with two counts of bad checks.

Aug. 22—Police charged an Allegheny County man with sucker punching another man during an argument last month at a Smith Road home in West Liberty.

The suspect, Eric L. Barlow, 27, of West Mifflin allegedly approached the victim, Charles Feitl, from behind and punched Feitl in the face. The punch knocked Feitl to the ground,

Barlow got on top of the victim and punched him several more times in the face, according to court documents. Police noted that Feitl had “large bruised and swelling” to the right side of his face and cuts to the hands and elbow.

Barlow is charged with simple assault and harassment.

Aug. 22—Lara A. Elliott, 34, was charged with having marijuana and other contraband in connection with a disturbance with her ex-boyfriend in March at her home in Harrisville.

Police said when they got to Elliott’s home about 3:45 a.m. March 21, they smelled a “strong odor “ of marijuana in an upstairs bedroom. In that room, according to court documents, they found a glass jar containing marijuana.

The defendant allowed troopers to search the house. In addition to the marijuana, police, the search turned up a Ziploc bag containing heroin as well as a bong, four drug-smoking pipes and four scales.

Elliott is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, and possession of a small amount of marijuana.

Aug. 21—A Pittsburgh man was charged with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month in Buffalo Township. Police said they stopped Joseph H. Donachy, 36, for a window tint violation about 3:20 p.m. July 19 on Route 356 near Route 28.

Troopers following the stop also learned the defendant was wanted on arrest warrants out of Allegheny and Westmoreland counties, according to court documents.

While speaking to Donachy, police suspected he was impaired on drugs, and they noticed fresh tracks marks in his arms. A subsequent search turned up a capped syringe in one of his pockets and empty stamp bags of suspected drugs on the driver’s seat, documents said.

He failed a drug recognition expert’s evaluation and was taken to ACMH Hospital in East Franklin Township, Armstrong County for a blood test. Toxicology results showed he had benzoylecgonine, which is a metabolite of cocaine, and morphine in his system

Donachy is charged with driving under the influence of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia, and driving with improper sunscreening.

Aug. 21—Katherine M. Hartman, 26, of Butler was charged with being more than three times to legal limit for alcohol following a traffic stop last month in Middlesex Township. Police said they pulled her over about 4:35 a.m. July 23 on Route 8 at East Cruikshank Road for erratic driving.

She admitted that she had been drinking at a bar in Butler Township, court documents said, but claimed she only consumed two drinks.

Hartman was subsequently taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test, which showed her blood-alcohol level was 0.295 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.

In addition to DUI, she is charged with failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, failing to use turn signals and careless driving.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Clarion[/naviga:h3]

2:45 p.m. Sunday—Carl D. Caporali, 72, of Saxonburg was hurt when he lost control of his motorcycle and crashed on Traister Road in Madison Township.

Caporali, who was not wearing a helmet, was taken to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh with unknown injuries. The Rimersburg Volunteer Fire Department assisted at the scene.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Kittanning[/naviga:h3]

1:25 a.m. Saturday— A Templeton man was arrested after he allegedly led state police on a 45-minute chase in Armstrong and Indiana counties.

Marcus Alcantara, 21, of Templeton was arraigned on felony and misdemeanor counts of fleeing or attempting to elude police and a list of other charges, and placed in the Armstrong County Jail on $20,000 bail.

Police said Alcantara about 12:40 a.m. drove away in a truck after a traffic stop in Plumcreek Township, Armstrong County. Troopers chased after the defendant over a number of roads before he wrecked in Cowanshannock Township, Armstrong County.

He is accused of running away from the scene but he was subsequently nabbed later that day.

In addition to fleeing police, Alcantara is charged with reckless endangerment and 12 traffic violations including driving without a license.
