Monday — Police charged two women who were found allegedly under the influence of drugs about 2:15 p.m. May 1 in a pickup truck at Memorial Park. Hilary M. McCrea, 27, of Chicora was in the driver’s seat and Amber R. Williams, 23, of Butler Township was in the passenger seat.

Butler Ambulance Service was called and examined both women.

Police said they found a plastic bag containing suspected crack cocaine in one of Williams’ pockets. On the truck’s passenger side, they found a crack pipe, two syringes and other contraband.

A search of a hand bag on the passenger seat turned stamp bags of suspected heroin and additional contraband, according to court documents.

On the driver’s side of the truck, police said they found two syringes, a crack pipe, pill grinder, spoon straw and more contraband.

Williams is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness. McCrea is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and public drunkenness.

Wednesday — Ronald L. Beachem Jr., 45, of West Sunbury was charged with trying to illegally buy a firearm at a township store last year.

Police said Beachem allegedly provided false information on a federal form that was required Dec. 27 when he attempted to buy a 12-gauge shotgun at the Butler Commons’ Walmart.

When his information was entered into the Pennsylvania Instant Check system, an automated system by which gun dealers can determine if someone can legally buy a gun in the state, he was denied the purchase.

Beachem is charged with unlawfully attempting to buy a firearm, a felony, and unsworn falsification to authorities, a misdemeanor.

Wednesday — Police charged Amber Zanella, 32, of Butler with trying to under-ring merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart self-checkout aisle by scanning a bar code of a cheaper item that was in front of more expensive items.

She is charged with retail theft.

12:35 a.m. Tuesday — A car driven by Zachery Irion, 22, of Butler rolled onto its roof, hitting the back of a parked vehicle on Hansen Avenue. The wreck pushed the parked vehicle into another vehicle that was parked in front of it.

Police said the accident investigation continues and charges are pending.

8 p.m. Monday — A sport utility vehicle driven by Peter P. Bova, 79, of Butler struck another SUV at Route 68 and South Duffy Road. The crash happened, according to a police report, after Bova ran a red light. James Kamerer, 72, of Butler was the other driver.

No one was injured but both vehicles had to be towed. Police cited Bova for the red light violation.

6:40 p.m. June 1 — Darryn A. John, 18, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly assaulted a former girlfriend in a vehicle on Route 8.

Police spoke to the alleged victim, Brittany Hay, at Butler Memorial Hospital where she went for treatment of injuries in the domestic dispute. She had a swollen and bruised left eye.

Hay said John had picked her up at her home in Butler for a ride when they began to argue, according to court documents. While traveling past Old Plank Road, he is accused of punching her twice in the face and once each in the left eye and jaw.

She told police that while hitting her, the defendant nearly lost control of the car, causing a wreck. Also in the vehicle was Hay’s 1-year-old child and her sister.

John is charged with simple assault, reckless endangerment and harassment. He also is charged separately with violating a Hay’s protection from abuse order against him.

He is in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.

[naviga:h3]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h3]

Thursday — Police reportedly are trying to scoop up the unknown suspect who burglarized an ice cream shop in Connoquenessing Township last week.

The crook managed to lick the building’s security system while committing the crime between 10 p.m. May 29 and 11 a.m. May 30 at King Cone Castle on Route 68, according to a police report.

Investigators said the suspect entered through the store’s locked door, disabled the alarm system and removed the security camera footage. Nothing else was taken.
