What's just $5 more?

Regarding the latest “great idea” from Harrisburg, the $5 additional tax on our vehicle registrations. This “brilliant” idea was part of the hideous bill that gave the citizens of Pennsylvania the highest gas tax in the entire nation, higher than the closest second place state by almost 10 percent. Of course, in the great tradition of Harrisburg, that wasn’t enough. They felt the need to fleece us on the title fees, increasing them from $22.50 to $50. There were plenty more of these increases, including raising the cost of transferring a plate from $6 to $9. They also saw fit to increase the price of that little paper inspection sticker on your windshield from $2 to $5. Plus, just for fun, they raised the one-time fee for vanity plates from $20 to $76. All of these large increases, plus the huge gas tax, were enacted to repair our roads and bridges.

So, why in the world do our commissioners feel the need to make us pay yet more money for the roads and bridges? I have to ask, when is enough enough? They contend that it’s only $5. How many families have more than one vehicle?

It seems that every politician who has the power to raise our taxes wants to do so without any consideration of what the others are doing. So Commissioners Osche and Geyer want to slap another $5 per car on us. Harrisburg wants to charge us $25 per person for “state police protection.” School boards want to increase property taxes. How many county property tax increases have we had in the last 10 years?

When will it be enough? When you get everything I earn, will that then be enough? We are already paying more money than any other state in our gas tax for roads, We receive impact fees from the Marcellus drillers, which is supposed to be used for infrastructure.

Although I hope the commissioners will reconsider, it appears that they have already made their decision, no matter what the rest of us think.

Thank you Mr Boozel, for having the people in mind in opposing this additional tax. If anyone decides to run against our two pretend Republicans in the next election, feel free to reach out to me, I will be happy to volunteer my time for your campaign.
