Friday — Debora K. Twyman, 46, of Butler was charged in connection with a shoplifting incident last month at a downtown discount store.

Twyman allegedly stole a coloring book shortly before 10 a.m. March 23 at the Dollar General on North Main Street, court documents said. Officers caught up to the defendant after seeing her walking on North Main Street to North Street and Jackson Street.

She first denied taking the coloring book, valued at $8.47. Later, documents said, she admitted taking the merchandise and told police they could find it in an alcove at the rear of a home on North Main Street. That’s where police recovered the book.

Twyman, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with misdemeanor retail theft.

Thursday — Richard A. Swann, 28, of Butler was charged with having Suboxone without a prescription and a marijuana pipe stemming from his arrest on a bench warrant on College Street.

Police said they stopped Swann about 12:30 p.m. March 21 when they got a call for a suspicious man outside a home in the 100 block of College Street. Officers searched the defendant after learning there was a warrant for him.

Inside his wallet, according to court documents, was a Suboxone strip. He admitted he did not have a prescription for the drug. He also was found with a marijuana pipe.

Swann is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia.

12:45 p.m. Friday — A car driven by Robin J. Stevenson, 59, of Butler rear-ended another vehicle that was stopped to make a left turn on Route 68. Neither Stevenson nor the other driver, Lisa Steiner, 39, of Slippery Rock, was hurt but both vehicles had to be towed.

Police cited Stevenson for driving at an unsafe speed.

8:01 a.m. Friday — Angela Gaiser, 38, of Chicora caused a two-vehicle accident when she tried to make a U-turn at the Moraine Pointe Plaza between Sam’s Club and Red Lobster. Police cited her for making an unsafe U-turn. Alice Lambing, 69, no address given, was the other driver.

3:32 p.m. Thursday — A Fayette County man was found with suspected crack cocaine after he allegedly tried to shoplift a mini refrigerator at the Butler Commons Walmart.

Store employees tried to stop the suspect, Earl A. Herbert Jr., 25, of Uniontown, who ran out the door, leaving behind the appliance valued at $99.84, according to a police report.

Officers a short time later found Herbert near the Valley Dairy restaurant at the shopping plaza. He ran again but this time police nabbed him after a brief chase through the Walmart parking lot.

A search, police said, turned up two small rocks of crack, a crack pipe and several empty stamp bags of suspected heroin.

Herbert was arraigned on charges of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, retail theft and disorderly conduct. He was placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.

6:12 p.m. Wednesday — A car driven by Darla Mathhews, 51, of Butler struck a curb and tree at Moraine Pointe Plaza, causing the vehicle to flip onto its side.

11:25 a.m. Wednesday — William J. Kamer Jr., 37, of Avonmore, Allegheny County, was allegedly caught with suspected drug contraband after being stopped for speeding during an aggressive driving detail at Route 422 and Duffy Road.

Kamer is charged with possession of drug paraphernalia and speeding.

[naviga:h2]Slippery Rock Police [/naviga:h2]

1:26 a.m. March 29 — Brayden T. McCorry, 23, of Slippery Rock was arrested for drunken driving on the Slippery Rock University campus. Police said they stopped him in the Water Tower parking lot for having a loud muffler on his pickup truck.

Police described McCorry as having an “overwhelming strong odor” of alcohol coming from him. He appeared to be intoxicated and admitted, “You got me — just do what you gotta do,” according to court documents.

He failed field sobriety tests and was taken to the Slippery Rock University police station for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.217 percent. The state limit for being considered intoxicated is 0.08 percent.

McCorry is charged with driving under the influence, driving with an exhaust pipe protruding past the vehicle body line, driving a vehicle without valid inspection and careless driving.

Wednesday — Police charged a Gibsonia teenager with drugged driving stemming from a traffic stop last month at Normal Avenue and East Cooper Street. Police said they stopped Brandon T. Zilavy, 19, of Gibsonia for having an obstructed license plate.

When Zilavy rolled down his window, according to court documents, police smelled marijuana coming from the truck. They also believed he was impaired. He admitted smoking marijuana earlier in the day, police said.

The teen also acknowledged he had a bag of marijuana in the pickup, documents said. Police said they found two bags of marijuana, as well five packages of marijuana cigars and a marijuana pipe.

Police said they took Zilavy to Grove City Medical Center for a blood test, which subsequently showed he had marijuana in his system.

In addition to driving under the influence of a controlled substance, Zilavy is charged with possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, and driving a vehicle with an obscured license plate.

[naviga:h2]State Police, Butler[/naviga:h2]

March 28 — Police charged a Greene County man with causing $2,190 in damage to a Chicora yard in February.

The suspect, Justin M. Anci, 24, of Waynesburg, apparently got his Jeep Patriot stuck about 1:50 p.m. Feb. 8 in the back yard of a man’s home in the 300 block of East Slippery Rock Street.

The victim told police when he looked out his rear window he saw the stuck sport utility vehicle. The suspect was spinning his tires in the yard. The homeowner went outside to confront the driver, who refused to give his name. The victim called police.

A trooper got there and found Anci, the stuck Jeep and the damage to the yard. A tow truck had to be called to remove the Jeep.

Anci is charged with criminal mischief.

[naviga:h2]State Police, Mercer[/naviga:h2]

7 p.m. Saturday — A 19-year-old Pittsburgh man was arrested on charges of driving under the influence of marijuana on Interstate 79 in Plain Grove Township. Police did not identify the teenager, who was taken for a blood test. Charges are pending lab results.
