Butler PoliceWednesday — Jenelle L. Hilliard, 25, of Butler was charged with stealing $20 earlier this year from the Pullman Square Kmart store where she worked.Police said Hilliard took the money from a cash register at the service desk. She also is accused of taking various food items, which she ate during her shift, according to court documents.The stolen food amounted to about $125. Police believe Hilliard took the merchandise and money on several occasions between Jan. 19 and Feb. 5She is charged with theft and retail theft.
State Police, Butler6:24 a.m. today — Police and emergency crews were called to a rollover accident on Bonniebrook Road in Oakland Township. The car ended on its roof.A police report was not immediately available and the name of the driver was not known. It also was not known if there were any injuries. Oneida Valley volunteer firefighters assisted at the scene.11:40 p.m. Monday — Emily Ann Mather, 47, was arrested she allegedly assaulted her boyfriend, Kevin Stoner, during a domestic dispute at their apartment on Broadway Avenue in East Butler.Stoner told police that Mather hit him in the face, chest and arms, according to court documents. Then she left the apartment and got in her car.He recounted that when he stepped in front of the car to stop her from leaving, Mather traveled forward, causing him to fall to the ground.“As she pulled away,” documents said, his left hand was (run) over by the right front tire.”Police said Stoner had several injuries including a swollen left hand and facial cuts and bruising. He also had a cut on his left forearm.Mather was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and harassment. She was placed in Butler County Prison on $3,000 bail following arraignment.11:30 a.m. Feb. 24 — Tyler Duane Smith, 32, of Butler was arrested after he allegedly broke into his grandparents' house in Oakland Township.A burglary alarm at the home on the 300 block of Center Drive sent troopers there. Police said they found a broken master bedroom window in the back of the house.The defendant's grandmother arrived and told troopers that she suspected he could have done the break-in, according to court documents.Images taken from a trail camera showed a white van in the driveway when the alarm sounded. Police said the van matched the description of the vehicle Smith was known to be driving.Police went to the suspect's home on North Chestnut Street where they found him seated in a white van that looked like the one in the photos taken by the camera.He admitted he used a BB gun, documents said, to smash the window at his grandparents' house. The gun handle broke off in the break-in. Troopers recovered the handle from the floor of the bedroom.Smith said he fled the house when he heard the alarm. While speaking to police, he admitted he had a drug-smoking pipe in his pocket.He was arraigned on charges of burglary, criminal mischief, possession of drug paraphernalia and driving with a suspended license. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail. Four days later, his bail was reduced to $3,000 with pretrial conditions attached.Feb. 24 — Jason H. Womack, 42, of Summit Township was charged with being more than three times the legal limit for alcohol in January when he crashed his car in Summit Township.Police said Womack lost control of his car about 10:20 p.m. Jan. 8 on Route 422 east at the Mitchell Hill Road off-ramp and struck an embankment. An ambulance crew was fitting the suspect for a neck brace when police got there.Womack, who smelled of alcohol, admitted he had been drinking that night, according to court documents. A blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.26 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, he is charged with disobeying traffic control devices, failing to keep right, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed, driving with invalid inspection, careless driving, reckless driving and not wearing a seat belt.Feb. 24 — John Janicki, 25, of Butler Township was charged with drunken and drugged driving in connection with an incident last month in Summit Township.Police said they were investigating a woman who was found laying on Protzman Road near the Butler-Freeport Community Trail about 3:20 a.m. Feb. 8 when Janicki drove up to the scene and parked on the side of the road.He appeared to be impaired and agreed to take field sobriety tests, which he failed. He admitted to having consumed one-half pint of vodka and prescription medication, according to court documents.Police arrested Janicki and took him to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology reports showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.159 percent. Additionally, he had marijuana and the antidepressant drug citalopram in his system.Janicki is charged with DUI, driving under the influence of a controlled substance, driving under the influence of a combination of drugs and alcohol, and careless driving.Feb. 24 — Police obtained arrest warrants for two women stemming from a 2015 drug investigation in Butler.The suspects — Shayna M. McDowell, 31, whose last known address was Butler, and Cheyenne A. Karch, 39, whose last known address was Butler Township — are both charged with possession of drug paraphernalia.McDowell also is charged with possession of a controlled substance.Police vice officers were conducting surveillance of an apartment building on the 300 block of the West Jefferson Street about 4 p.m. Sept. 18, 2015, when they spotted McDowell and Karch walk inside.The officers went to the building ad knocked on the door. When they got no answer, they forced open the door, according to court documents.Police took both women into custody. McDowell admitted she had heroin in her bra, documents said. She reached into the underwear and removed a pink wallet that contained 11 stamp bags of heroin.Karch also acknowledged she had drug contraband in her purse.District Judge Sue Haggerty that night issued police a search warrant for the home. Police turned up 11 more bags of heroin, 41 syringes, a drug-cooking spoon and drug-smoking pipe.Feb. 24 — Kelsey N. Sweeney, 24, of Harrisville was charged Feb. 24 with theft for allegedly stealing about $350 during the past year from her grandparents’ home on Houston Avenue in Harrisville. She is accused of stealing coins in a jar and in a jewelry box, currency from a wallet and prescription medication.7:58 a.m. Feb. 21 — Joseph A. Valensky, 56, of West Sunbury suffered a seizure and lost control of his car, which struck a metal fence along Stoney Run Road just west of Route 308 in Center Township.Valensky, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for unknown treatment.
State Police, Mercer9:25 p.m. Tuesday — A Pine Township Engine Company firefighter responding to a crash call was hurt when the sport utility vehicle he was driving struck the cab of a tractor-trailer and spun into the median on Interstate 80 in Wolf Creek Township.James L. Hipps, 41, of Grove City, who was wearing a seat belt, was taken to Grove City Medical Center with a minor injury. Jose Ruiz, 50, of Elizabeth, N.J., was driving the rig.
