Butler Police10:52 a.m. Monday — Joe Wayne McDowell, 31, was arrested after he allegedly attacked his girlfriend, Lana Claypole, during a domestic dispute at their apartment in the 300 block of Virginia Avenue.Claypole told police that McDowell grabbed her and punched her in the back of the head and in the face, according to court documents. She managed to get away and call 911.Officers less than two hours later caught McDowell at 12:30 p.m. on Main Street. He was arraigned on a charge of simple assault and placed in the Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail.
Adams Twp PoliceMonday — Joshua Donald Black, 37, of Mars was charged with being more than double the legal limit for alcohol and high on drugs stemming from a traffic stop last month on Brickyard Road.Police said they stopped Black about 4 p.m. Jan. 12 after they spotted his car travel out of his lane. He admitted to drinking and smoking “a little bit of” marijuana earlier that day, according to a police report.He later was taken to UPMC Passavant Cranberry for a blood test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.168 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Black is charged with driving under the influence of both alcohol and a controlled substance, and disregarding traffic lanes.
Butler Twp Police10:38 p.m. Tuesday — Police said it was just a strange coincidence. Cars driven by a brother and sister collided head-on on Delwood Road.Lindsay Walter, 20, of Center Township was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with minor injuries. Her sibling, Chad N. Walter, 23, of Butler, was not injured. He was cited for careless driving.Tuesday — Police reported they are investigating several recent acts of vandalism in which a BB gun was used to shoot into windows of homes and at least one business in the Meridian area. According to a police report, a dark-colored pickup truck may have been involved in one of the incidents on Pinecrest Court.Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-285-9600.
Middlesex Twp PoliceJan. 25 — Police charged an Allegheny County teenager with illegally possessing prescription pills and marijuana in connection with a traffic stop last month on Route 8.The suspect, 18-year-old Matthew C. Ready of Allison Park, was stopped for speeding about 1:30 a.m. Jan. 8 at Route 8 and Leslie Road. Officer Alyssa Mathews said she smelled marijuana coming from the car.Ready admitted he had marijuana and alcohol in the trunk of the vehicle, according to court documents. Mathews found a bag of marijuana and a bottle of cherry vodka where the teen said it was. He denied having any other contraband.But when the officer searched the car, documents said, she turned up a drug smoking pipe and seven white pills that were in a backpack on the passenger seat.The suspect subsequently identified the pills as Adderall, which is a drug commonly used to treat attention deficit hyperactivity disorder. He also acknowledged that he did not have a prescription for the medication.Ready is charged with possession of a controlled substance, possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia, underage possession of alcohol and speeding.
Slippery Rock PoliceJan. 18 — Police charged a Maryland man with drunken driving in connection with a 1:25 a.m. Jan. 14 traffic stop at Elm and West Cooper streets. The driver, Timothy A. Evans, 24, of Clarksburg smelled of alcohol and appeared intoxicated.Evans was eventually arrested after failing field sobriety tests. He was taken to the station for a breath test, which showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.081 percent, court documents said. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Evans is charged with driving with a burned out passenger-side headlight.
Grove City Police7:30 p.m. Sunday — Shayna Perrine, 20, of Grove City lost control of her sport utility vehicle on ice-covered George Junior Road and slid into a tree. She was not hurt but her vehicle had to be towed.Police said they cited Perrine for driving too fast for conditions and driving without a license.Jan. 26 — Two cars were damaged in a hit-and-run accident at College View Towers.Police said the accident happened when an unidentified vehicle struck one of the cars that was parked in the traffic way behind College View Towers. The crash forced the parked car into another car that also was parked there.The owners of both cars are tenants at the apartment complex. Butler County DetectivesFriday — Butler County Prison inmate Terrance J. Mack, 24, of Clay Township was arraigned on a felony charge for allegedly escaping from the VA Butler Healthcare facility where he had been taken for unspecified treatment.Mack on Jan. 2 left the facility without the court’s permission or knowledge. He had been placed there for treatment Nov. 7.Before fleeing the VA facility, the defendant had been in the county prison since May 19 after he was arrested for allegedly robbing a Slippery Rock sandwich shop. That case is still pending in court.In the new case, he is charged with escape. He is being held in the county prison on a combined $75,000 bail for both cases.
Slippery Rock University Police5:23 p.m. Jan. 24 — Keynon W. Griffiths, 19, of Pittsburgh was caught illegally possessing prescription pills and suspected marijuana in his dorm room at Slippery Rock University.A report of the odor of marijuana coming from the room initially sent campus police there. Griffiths admitted he had been smoking marijuana, according to court documents. Police said he also turned over a bottle containing 12 Adderall pills and one alprazolam pill. He acknowledged that he did not have prescriptions for either drug.Additionally, documents said, he handed over another pill bottle containing marijuana. Other seized contraband included a marijuana pipe, marijuana grinder, digital scale and an empty container of marijuana wax.Griffiths is charged with two counts of possession of a controlled substance, and possession of a small amount of marijuana and drug paraphernalia.
State Police, ButlerWednesday — An unknown vandal drove a vehicle through an 88-year-old woman’s yard in the 2000 block of Chicora Road in Chicora and smashed a brick pillar. The vandalism happened between about 12:01 and 6 a.m.Jan. 18 — Brittany M. Rogowski, 20, of Pittsburgh was charged with drugged driving stemming from year-end traffic stop in Slippery Rock. Police said they pulled her over Dec. 31 on Route 8 near Main Street for driving a car without a working passenger-side headlight.Troopers could smell marijuana coming from the vehicle, according to court documents, and they noticed a trace of “green vegetable matter” on the suspect’s bottom lip.She failed field sobriety tests and was arrested. A search turned up a small amount of marijuana in her front sweat shirt pocket. Results of a blood test at Butler Memorial Hospital later confirmed the presence of marijuana in her system.Rogowski is charged with driving under the influence, possession of a small amount of marijuana, driving without a license, careless driving, a lighting violation and driving without a valid inspection.
