Buffalo Twp PoliceMonday — Dusty J. Staley, 20, of Tarentum, Allegheny County, was charged with shoplifting 10 packs of razors Dec. 7 at the Buffalo Plaza Giant Eagle store. She was stopped leaving the store with the $218 in merchandise in her purse.Police said she acknowledged trying to steal the items. “She admitted that she did not have a job,” court documents said, “and expressed that it’s hard.’”Staley is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.
Butler Twp PoliceTuesday — Missy M. Emerick, 29, of Lyndora was charged with having drugs during a probation house check Dec. 14 at her home on Meadow Avenue. She is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and possession of a small amount of marijuana.10:01 a.m. Monday — One person was hurt when a Butler Area Rural Transit bus driven by Thomas K. Smith, 76, of Butler failed to stop for a red light and struck a sport utility vehicle at New Castle and North Duffy roads.The other driver, Karen Boettner, 67, of Butler, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with undisclosed injuries. The Butler Township Volunteer Fire District 3 assisted at the scene. Police cited Smith for the red light violation.
Penn Twp PoliceNov. 22 — Police charged three Connoquenessing Township residents with showing up intoxicated at a home on Mountain Laurel in November with the intent to harm the man that lives there.Accused are Elvis A. Major, 37, Carrie A. Major, 39, and Jessie O. Staaf, 21. They are all charged with conspiracy to commit simple assault, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness in connection with the Nov. 6 incident.Elvis Major also is charged with terroristic threats and harassment.Police say Elvis Major sent numerous text messages to David Karmanocky before he and his two accomplices went to the alleged victim’s home shortly before 1 a.m., according to court documents.Karmanocky later called 911 to report the defendants were there pounding on his door. He reported that Elvis Major was yelling for him to come outside and fight.The altercation apparently stemmed from an earlier disagreement between Karmanocky and the others.
Butler County Sheriff’s OfficeDec. 14 — Antionette L. Sherkosky, 42, waived her preliminary hearing in a felony case filed after she tried to run from deputies who showed up with a warrant last month at her home in the 200 block of North Road in Franklin Township.Two deputies ordered Sherkosky to stop about 9:30 a.m. Nov. 2 when she took off running, according to court documents. One deputy warned her to stop or she would get Tasered. She eventually was taken to the ground and handcuffed.But when she was placed in the sheriff’s car, she “banged her head against the window,” documents said, and tried to break out the glass.She is headed for court on a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension.In an unrelated case, Sherkosky also waived a felony assault charge stemming from an altercation in April she had with an adult probation officer who went to her home with a domestic relations warrant.State police in that case said the defendant about 9:25 p.m. April 21 tried to run down Chad Karenbauer with her minivan. According to court documents, Karenbauer had to jump out of he way to avoid the van. He was not injured.In addition to aggravated assault, she is headed to court on a misdemeanor charge of reckless endangerment.
State Police, ButlerMonday — Police charged Mark R. Okeson, 38, of Butler Township with drunken driving in connection with a two-vehicle crash this summer in Center Township.The wreck happened about 3:25 a.m. July 1 when Okeson’s car struck another vehicle and a utility pole in the 100 block of South Benbrook Road. Police said they could smell alcohol coming from him when they got there.Okeson was arrested after failing field sobriety tests. A breath test later showed his blood-alcohol level was slightly above the state’s limit of 0.08 percent, according to court documents.He is charged with driving under the influence, failing to keep right and disregarding traffic lanes.Friday — Dawn S. Finucan, 50, of Butler was charged with drugged driving stemming from a hit-and-run crash earlier this month in the 800 block of Mercer Road in Center Township.Police suspect Finucan drove away after she hit the other vehicle in front of Stirling Landscape & Nursery. The wreck resulted in injuries but a police report did not identify who was hurt.The suspect was later found and taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test. Toxicology results showed that she had multiple drugs in her system.Finucan is charged with driving under the influence, accidents involving injury, hit-and-run, disregarding traffic lanes, following too closely to another vehicle, driving at an unsafe speed, careless driving, reckless driving, failing to stop and give information or render aid after an accident, failing to notify police immediately after an accident, and driving a vehicle without valid inspection.Dec. 14 — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Adam Joel Simmer, 41, of Clay Township in connection with a suspected fraudulent return scheme last month at the JC Penney store, Clearview Mall in Center Township.Simmer is accused of shoplifting four Pittsburgh Steelers jerseys Nov. 13, and then trying to return the merchandise, valued at a combined $400, for a refund.When employees apparently caught onto the scheme, according to court documents, the suspect fled the store, driving away in a car.Simmer, a repeat shoplifter, is charged with a felony count of retail theft and misdemeanor counts of theft by deception and receiving stolen property.
