Butler Police9:52 a.m. Thursday — James L. Musser III, 35, of Butler was arrested at a West Jefferson Street convenience store where two days earlier he allegedly swiped a candy bar.Two officers were in the store, according to court documents, when an employee at the A-Plus approached them with her suspicion that a man also there had shoplifted a candy bar about 8:30 p.m. Sept. 27.Police eventually confirmed the employee’s suspicion and arrested the man, who was identified as Musser. Documents noted that the shoplifting was captured on store surveillance video.Musser, who has one prior shoplifting conviction, is charged with a misdemeanor count of retail theft.

Buffalo Twp PoliceFriday — Casey T. Montgomery, 30, of Winfield Township was charged with drunken driving stemming from a motorcycle crash in June in the 2000 block of Silverville Road that left him with a broken leg.Police said Montgomery did not have a valid driver’s license when he lost control of his cycle and wrecked about 3:30 a.m. June 18 When an officer found him seated on the side of a hill near his badly damaged cycle, he appeared impaired and smelled of alcohol, according to court documents.A Freeport EMS crew tended to his injuries, which included a compound leg fracture, and took him to Allegheny General Hospital in Pittsburgh.A blood test later showed his blood-alcohol level was .073 percent, documents said. While that level is below the state’s 0.08 percent legal limit for alcohol, police suspect it was high enough to render him incapable of safely driving the motorcycle.Montgomery is charged with driving under the influence, of a controlled substance, reckless driving, careless driving, driving with an expired license and driving without a motorcycle license.

Butler Twp Police11:53 p.m. Sunday — David K. Arnold, 37, of Butler was allegedly caught with suspected drugs and other contraband at the GetGo store on Route 8 north. He is charged with misdemeanor counts of possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia and a summary charge of public drunkenness.10:47 a.m. Saturday — Cruz D. Roy, 23, of Butler lost control of his vehicle and struck a utility pole along Old Plank Road near McQuistion Road. Along with careless driving, Roy is charged with driving at an unsafe speed, driving with improper tires, driving a vehicle without valid inspection and driving with an open container of alcohol.11:09 a.m. Saturday — Susan D. Grindel, 64, of Butler was hurt in a two-vehicle crash at Meridian Road and Highland Avenue. The collision happened when Grindel turned her vehicle into the path of another vehicle.Grindel was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital with moderate injuries. The other driver, Troy Tirl, 40, of Meridian, was not injured.Police said traffic on Meridian Road was detoured for less than an hour following the wreck. Butler Fire District 3 assisted police with traffic control.Police cited Grindel for making an improper left turn.

Middlesex Twp PoliceFriday — Police charged Holly N. Pallerino, 39, of Wexford with being more than three times over the legal limit for alcohol following a traffic stop about 6:10 p.m. Aug. 22 on Route 8 in Penn Township.Moments before the traffic stop, according to court documents, Pallerino’s southbound car traveled across the northbound lanes and in front of two other vehicles, nearly colliding with them.The suspect’s car went off the road and into the Premier Upholstry parking lot, almost hitting the side of the building. Police said the car stopped just six inches from the building.Officers approached the car and asked Pallerino if she was all right. She told police she was OK and that she “just wanted to go home,” documents said.A search of her car would eventually turn up an empty bottle of vodka and several bottles of prescription medication.Pallerino subsequently failed field sobriety tests and was taken to UPMC Passavant hospital in Cranberry Township for a blood test. Results showed her blood-alcohol was 0.299 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.She is charged with driving under the influence.

State Police, Butler11:46 p.m. Sunday — Justin A. Peters, 27, of Butler was arrested for suspected drugged driving at the police barracks off New Castle Road in Butler Township. Troopers found Peters and three passengers in the vehicle, which had a Mississippi license plate, parked near other employee vehicles and construction trailers at the barracks.Moments earlier, according to a police report, the suspect’s vehicle had been spotted driving around buildings at the barracks.Police subsequently arrested Peters for driving on drugs. A search of one of the passengers, Stacy Bergbigler, 42, of Butler, turned up a suspected prescription that was “improperly packaged,” the report said.Peters, who refused a blood test, was arraigned on charges of driving under the influence of a controlled substance and careless driving. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.Police said Bergbigler faces charges of drug and drug paraphernalia possession.

State Police, New Castle4:30 a.m. Monday — An unknown would-be burglar failed in an attempted break-in at the Tic Toc Food Mart on Ellwood Road in Slippery Rock Township, Lawrence County. The suspect damaged the front of the store in the alleged crime.Police said the burglar alarm sounded and apparently scared off the crook. The investigation continues.
