Butler Police6:35 p.m. Monday — Katherine E. Hayes, 23, of Irwin, Westmoreland County, was arrested for allegedly giving police a false name after being stopped for suspected shoplifting at the A-Plus store on West Jefferson Street.Hayes is accused of swiping $4 worth of munchies — cookies, candy and chips — from the store. She ran off but police caught her in little time.The suspected thief admitted taking the cookies, according to court documents, and a search turned up a syringe in one of the pockets of her jeans. She provided police with both a name and birth date that turned out to be bogus.Police eventually identified Hayes and charged her with false identification to law enforcement authorities, retail theft and possession of drug paraphernalia. She was arraigned on charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $2,500 bail.Sunday — Michael E. Karch, 36, of Butler was arrested after running from police who were called to investigate a report of a woman screaming at a home on Bredin Street.When officers got to the home they found Karch, who was already wanted on a felony arrest warrant in connection with a May 6 theft in Butler.The suspect took off running, according to court documents, and police gave chase. One officer deployed his Taser but it did not stop Karch. Police eventually caught him at West Penn Street and Miller Avenue.Karch was arraigned on a felony charge of flight to avoid apprehension. He also is charged with resisting arrest and disorderly conduct.Additionally, he was arraigned on three felony charges in the unrelated theft case. He is being held in the Butler County Prison on $25,000 bail.Thursday — Robert J. Yeager, 32, of Glenshaw, Allegheny County, was charged with drunken and drugged driving during a June 1 speed trap on Route 8 south. Police stopped Yeager just south of the General Butler Bridge for traveling 50 mph in the 35 mph zone,An officer noted a “strong odor” of alcohol coming from the suspect, who was subsequently arrested after failing field sobriety tests, according to court documents. He was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.Toxicology tests showed he had cocaine in his system, documents said, and a blood-alcohol level of 0.102 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.Yeager is charged with driving under the influence of alcohol and a controlled substance, driving with a suspended license and speeding.

Cranberry Twp Police1:15 a.m. Sunday — A Georgia man was arrested after he allegedly tried to punch his 15-year-old son during a family fight at the Hilton Garden View Inn.Daniel R. Bost, 34, of Ringold was arraigned on several charges and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail.Police alleged Bost was intoxicated when he got into an argument with his son. He closed his fist and was about to punch the boy when Bost’s wife stepped in between her husband and son, according to court documents.The defendant’s wife told police that Bost got angrier and started to throw items around in the hotel room. He is charged with simple assault, disorderly conduct and harassment.

Grove City PoliceTuesday — A Grove City resident turned in an abandoned bicycle from the 400 block of West Main Street The owner can pick up the bike at the police station at 724-458-7925.

State Police, ButlerTuesday — Police reported they are investigating a burglary at a home on Kildoo Road in Clay Township. Several items valued at nearly $600 were stolen in the break-in that happened between April 24 and May 8.Among the property taken was a Duraheat space heater, a kerosene heater, three 20-gallon propane tanks and a Craftsman cordless impact wrench. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-284-8100.12:48 a.m. Sunday — John N. Antanitis, 33, of Gibsonia was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 28 in Buffalo Township. Police said they also found him with suspected marijuana and other drug contraband. Charges are pending lab results.June 29 — Chrystal K. Brown, 43, of North Washington was arrested on charges she broke into a two-car garage June 10 at a home on Christie Road. She also allegedly stole $500 worth of tools belonging to property owner William Senopole, court documents said.Additionally, police suspect Brown damaged an empty fuel tank outside of the garage.Police on June 27 spoke to Brown, who acknowledged her role in the alleged crime. She also admitted taking her 14-year-old nephew to the home that night. Police accused her of “enticing” the boy to help her in the burglary, documents said.Brown offered investigators a motive, telling them that a man who used to live at the home still owed her money for a pit bull puppy that he bought from her, police said.She claimed she “removed several tools and other items that she thought totaled the money she was owed,” according to a police affidavit.She eventually sold the items to another man, who was unaware that they were stolen, police said.Brown was arraigned on felony charges of burglary and trespass, misdemeanor charges of theft by unlawful taking, theft by deception, corruption of minors, and a summary charge of criminal mischief. She remains free on her own recognizance.
