Butler Twp PoliceMonday — Gary C. O’Neal, 45, of Butler was charged with drunken driving in connection with a traffic stop earlier this month on Route 422 east.Police said they pulled over O’Neal about 12:15 p.m. April 3 a short time after they got a call that he was intoxicated at a local Wine and Spirits store. Officers stopped him as he was turning onto Route 422 from New Castle Road.In addition to driving under the influence, O’Neal is charged with speeding, driving without a license, careless driving, following too closely to another vehicle and driving with an open container of alcohol.Monday — Police charged Robert F. Novak, 64, of Butler with DUI stemming from a traffic stop at 6:13 p.m. April 2 on Route 8 south.1:50 p.m. April 13 — Two students got into a fight at Butler Intermediate High School. The students, both Butler boys, were cited for harassment. Police said the school also suspended both boys.
Butler County SheriffFriday — Terence P. Andres, 43, of Center Township was charged with providing false information on a background check form to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.Andres allegedly provided answers about his criminal record on the concealed carry application that were not truthful and was rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.He is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.
State Police, Butler11:40 p.m. Sunday — Steven P. McGinty, 27, was arrested on charges stemming from a domestic dispute at his family’s home in Slippery Township. Police also suspect McGinty was drunk when they pulled him over a short time later.Troopers were initially called to the defendant’s house on Sandy Lane where he allegedly attacked his father, Steven P. McGinty, who had a bloody nose and left cheek, according to court documents.The elder McGinity told police that the fight started when he refused to give his son the keys to his car.The suspect eventually drove away but not before hitting several items in the yard with a baseball bat, according to court documents. McGinty’s grandmother told police that he also threatened to shoot family members at the home as well as police who were called to the scene.Police said when they stopped McGinity in his car, he smelled of alcohol. He later refused a breath or blood test.McGinity was arraigned on charges of simple assault, terroristic threats, harassment and driving under the influence. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.Sunday — A small, red gas can with fuel in it was stolen from the back of a storage building in a wooded area at the end of Forest Street in Fairview Township. The unknown thief also broke a window at the shed belonging to a 37-year-old man.The theft and vandalism happened between 8 p.m. Saturday and 9:30 a.m. Sunday.Saturday — Shaney May Hockenberry, 43, of Slippery was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence on Route 8 just south of Route 138 in Clay Township.Friday — Mark D. Higgins, 52, of Summit Township was charged with being more than three times the legal limit for alcohol after a hit-and-run crash last month in Summit Township.Police suspect Higgins did not stop after the wreck about 7:45 p.m. March 19 on Portman Road near Protzman Road. The driver of the other car, which was damaged, retrieved the suspect’s license plate, which was left behind in the crash. Police traced the plate to Higgins’ sport utility vehicle, court documents said.Police found the damaged SUV at the home of the suspect, who reeked of alcohol. He admitted he had been drinking before returning home. He was arrested and taken to the barracks for a breath tests.The test showed Higgins’ blood-alcohol level was 0.282 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law. He is charged with DUI, hit-and-run, driving on the wrong side of the road, disregarding traffic lanes, driving at an unsafe speed and careless driving.Friday — An unknown would-be burglar tried to break into a house on the 400 block of Grubb Road in Cherry Township. The suspect targeted a basement door but was unable to get inside the 63-year-old man’s home when he was not there.
State Police, Kittanning5:31 a.m. Monday — A 25-year-old woman, who police did not identify, was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after she was found passed out behind the wheel of a car in the McDonald’s restaurant parking lot in East Franklin Township. Police said charges are pending lab results.
