Butler PoliceThursday — Michael J. Carnahan, 49, of Butler was charged with drunken driving after police found him about 1:50 p.m. March 11 on South Monroe Street. Carnahan, who reeked of alcohol, was taken to Butler Memorial Hospital for a blood test.Toxicology results later showed his blood-alcohol level was 0.142 percent. A level of 0.08 percent is considered intoxicated under state law.In addition to driving under the influence, Carnahan is charged with driving with a suspended license.
Butler Twp. PoliceWednesday — A five-time convicted shoplifter was arrested after she was caught allegedly stealing $110 worth of merchandise at the Butler Commons’ Walmart. Julie L. Lascuola, 33, of Butler was arraigned on a felony count of retail theft and placed in the Butler County Prison on $5,000 bail following arraignment.While normally a summary or misdemeanor offense, retail theft is upgraded to a third-degree felony regardless of the stolen property’s value when a defendant has at least two prior arrests for the same crime.County court records showed she has five prior shoplifting convictions between 2011 and 2015.Tuesday — Police obtained an arrest warrant for Scott W. Braden, 33, of Butler in connection with the weekend theft of $1,200 worth of tools taken from a vehicle on Shady Avenue. The vehicle was parked in a driveway when it was entered about 10:20 p.m. Saturday.Braden is charged with theft, receiving stolen property, theft from a vehicle and loitering and prowling at night.1:09 p.m. Sunday — A car driven by Tina M. Angello, 38, of Renfrew rear-ended a vehicle on Duffy Road at New Castle Road. The crash forced the other vehicle, driven by Thomas Enright, 58, of Butler into a third vehicle, driven by Beverly Peth, 62, of Butler.Angello told police the crash happened when her foot slipped off the brake. Police cited her for driving at an unsafe speed.
Grove City Police9:49 p.m. Wednesday — John Katalinas, 19, of Grove City was arrested after he allegedly violated a protection from abuse order at the Country Fair store on West Main Street where he tried to contact the victim, Tiffany Cramer of Grove City. He was placed in the Mercer County Jail.Wednesday — Brandon Morgan, 21, of Grove City pleaded guilty to a charge of simple assault stemming from an incident last month at the Country Fair store on West Main Street where police say he pulled an Airsoft gun on another man.District Judge D. Neil McEwen ordered Morgan to pay $297 in fines and court costs.In exchange for the plea to the misdemeanor charge, prosecutors withdrew three other charges, including two felonies.Police initially believed the replica gun that Morgan had was real when he showed it to the other man just before 9 p.m. March 10. No one was injured.The suspect two days later was picked up on an arrest warrant police obtained in the case. According to a police report, officers recovered the suspected weapon and determined it to be an Airsoft handgun.Following his March 12 arraignment on felony charges of illegal possession of a firearm and carrying a firearm without a permit, and misdemeanor charges of simple assault and disorderly conduct, Morgan was placed in the Mercer County Jail on $25,000 bail and on a probation detainer out of Venango County.Morgan’s bail was lifted following Wednesday’s proceedings but he remained in the Mercer County Jail this morning. Jail officials said he is to be transported to the Venango County Jail to await his probation violation hearing.
Butler County SheriffWednesday — Candace M. Rikal, 39, of Summit Township was charged with providing false information on a background check form to obtain a permit to carry a handgun.Rikal allegedly provided answers about his criminal record on the concealed carry application that were not truthful and was rejected by the Pennsylvania Instant Check System that is run by the state police.She is charged with unsworn falsification to authorities.
State Police, Butler3 p.m. March 22 — An Elk County woman was hurt when a car she was riding in collided with a sport utility vehicle in Washington Township.Joella E. Fiorella, 36, of Johnsonburg, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.The collision happened when the car driven by Katie A. Hetrick, 32, of Johnsonburg traveled into the path of the SUV at Route 38 and North Washington Road. Police cited Hetrick for a stop sign violation. Cynthia A. Smith, 52, of Midland, Beaver County, was the other driver.
State Police, Clarion10:40 a.m. March 23 — Gregory A. Shearer, 20, of Boyers was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence of a controlled substance after he was stopped for speeding on Interstate 80 in Beaver Township.
