Butler Twp Police8:37 p.m. Thursday — Bryan J. Stein, 23, of Butler was arrested on a bench warrant following a traffic stop at Route 68 and New Castle Road. A search of the impounded car turned up suspected drug contraband. Police charged Stein with possession of drug paraphernalia.The warrant for Stein, Butler County Court records show, was issued Wednesday after he failed to appear for a court hearing in connection with a misdemeanor drug case that township police filed last year.
Grove City PoliceMonday — Police accused a Burger King employee of stealing five lottery tickets, including a $500 winning ticket, from a co-worker last week. Theft charges are pending against Kirsten B. Shaffer, 24, of Slippery Rock, according to a police report.Video surveillance captured the suspect taking the lottery tickets from the victim’s work locker at the restaurant on West Main Street.Monday — A 17-year-old resident at George Junior Republic juvenile detention facility in Pine Township was charged with stabbing a staff member last month at the Marathon gas station on West Main Street. The stabbing occurred Dec. 12 after the suspect, who is from Altoona, Blair County, escaped from the facility.Police did not identify the teen, who also is accused of stealing bicycles following his escape. He faces charges in juvenile court including aggravated assault and theft.Additionally, a 16-year-old Massachusetts boy and resident at George Junior Republic also was charged with theft for allegedly stealing bicycles after fleeing the facility Dec. 12.Monday — Police cited the Rite Aid store on West Main Street stemming from a false alarm activation Dec. 27. According to a police report, the citation was issued because of past false alarms.8:41 a.m. Dec. 27 — A utility pole was damaged in a hit-and-run crash at South Center Street and Stewart Avenue. Police have not identified the driver of the burgundy vehicle that hit the pole. Anyone with information is asked to call police at 724-458-7925
Slippery Rock Police12:38 a.m. Sunday — An Illinois man was arrested after a suspected case of drunken vandalism at a parking lot behind a bar on South Main Street.The suspect, Bryan D. White, 31, of St. Elmo, is accused of kicking a pickup truck and pounding on its hood at the Midway Alley lot. He also allegedly smashed the taillight of a car.The owners of the truck and car spotted the defendant and tackled him, holding him down until officers got there, according to court documents.Police later noticed that a third vehicle, which was parked next to the damaged car, also appeared to have been vandalized; however, it as not immediately known if White damaged that vehicle, too.Officers said they searched White and found a pair of brass knuckles. The defendant, who reeked of alcohol, also shouted profanities at the officers.The defendant, meanwhile, claimed he was jumped while walking down the street. He told police that he had just arrived in town only “six hours ago” and was staying at a nearby hotel.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned White on charges of criminal mischief, public drunkenness, disorderly conduct and possession of a prohibited offensive weapon. He was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
State Police, Butler8:44 a.m. Monday — A Crawford County woman was hurt when she lost control of her sport utility vehicle after looking away from the road and struck a guardrail on Interstate 79 in Lancaster Township. Marian S. Scales, 33, of Titusville, who was wearing a seat belt, suffered a minor injury.Police cited Scales for disregarding traffic lanes.Monday — A Featherlite horse trailer was stolen from a parking area on Route 19 in Muddy Creek Township. The trailer, which was fitted with the Pennsylvania plate XM31929, was taken between Dec. 1 and Monday.12:03 a.m. Wednesday — Raymond A. Watson, 49, of Center Township was arrested for being a habitual offender for driving with a suspended license and trespass after he was spotted in the rear parking lot at the barracks in Butler Township.According to court documents, police had previously warned Watson that he was no longer permitted to enter the state police property on Barracks Road ”due to previous incidents.”The suspect tried to drive away in his pickup truck but troopers quickly stopped him at a parking lot of a nearby business.District Judge Sue Haggerty arraigned Watson on charges of being a habitual suspended driver, trespass, driving an unregistered vehicle, driving with a suspended registration, driving without a license, driving without insurance, driving without valid inspection and not wearing a seat belt.The defendant was placed in Butler County Prison on $10,000 bail following arraignment.
State Police, Clarion9:28 a.m. Monday — Ali M. Eljahmi, 21, of Brooklyn, N.Y., lost control of his car and struck a guardrail on Interstate 80 in Allegheny Township, Butler County. Police said Eljahmi was cited for disregarding traffic lanes.2:55 a.m. Saturday — William D. Kelly, 26, of Parker was arrested for suspicion of driving under the influence after his pickup truck crashed into several trees before hitting a utility pole along Doc Walker Road just north of Stacey Road in Perry Township, Clarion County.6:40 a.m. Wednesday — No one was injured when a car crashed into a guardrail after its driver’s side tire blew out on I-80 in Allegheny Township. Malachi M. McKinney, 19, of Wappinger, N.Y., was driving the car.6:10 p.m. Dec. 28 — Jamie A. Painter, 37, of East Brady was caught with suspected drugs when police found him passed out in a vehicle in a parking lot on Main Street in Rimersburg. A police report said Painter was under the influence of drugs in the vehicle that did not belong to him.He is charged with possession of a controlled substance and drug paraphernalia, disorderly conduct and public drunkenness.
State Police, MercerSaturday — An unknown thief stole $10 in currency after breaking into a Grove City couple’s vehicle on Francis Street in Perry Township, Mercer County. The theft happened between 8 p.m. Friday and 11:30 a.m. Saturday.
